The bike arrived with some damage to the packing, in condition Amazon Warehouse stated.
Inspection revealed no issues with the bike itself. The bike was assembled with ease (I'm handy and have tools). The manual was unneeded by me, as I have worked on my own bicycles, and such since a kid.
Unlike in other reviews the wheels were reasonably true and there were no noticeable flaws in the paint.
While the fenders were undented upon unpacking it seems that that are easily dented, as one of mine dented soon after assembly. I checked all the bearings for proper preload: the front wheel was way too tight, the crank set was slightly loose, the head set had little grease, the rear seemed okay. There is an issue with the pedals, one had some grease and a few ball bearings stuck to it... I hope there are from the pedal as I have spares of those. With the bike assembled, I took it for a ride and it rode well enough that I may keep it whole and use my current beach cruiser as my parts donor. However used, whole or for parts, all bearing assemblies will be disassembled, cleaned, re-greased , and proper preload set. If you are looking at a new bike like this, and are handy, this is not a bad one. If you are not handy, or have no tools, you may want to price one at a full service bike shop that will set it up for you, or pick one up cheaper at a big-box store and have a full service shop set it up for you.
Addendum 9/22/22: All bearing dissembled, cleaned , regressed and adjusted. As found all bearing had some grease with the head and crank set having less than I like to see, the rear hub was greased well enough. Being suspicious of the type of grease used, (due to general cheapness of the bike) I cleaned all the bearing sets, and re-greased all with a decent high temp GL-2 grease. Summery : As delivered, the front hub and crank set bearings would have very likely worn prematurely do to improper preload (tightness/looseness). Once properly adjusted, they would have likely been okay for a while, but a good cleaning and repack with a known quality grease should ensure a longer service life.
I am a hobbyist both with cars and bicycles, so I would like to think I have a jump on the average consumer.
First off. This is a cheap, Chinese made bike. They have issues with how they package them adequately enough in some areas and not enough in others. There are machine work issues that need attention at the factory level. There is an overwhelming lack of attention to detail. Most of the bearings were dry. People comment on coaster brake and rear hub issues, this is because the thin layer of grease they apply isn't adequate for any kind of real friction and burns up fast. I repacked my rear hub with 800° Shell Gadus grease and haven't had issue since. The headset bearings were dry, there were metal shavings and burrs in the steer tube threads that needed to be filed down, and this was a small headache but nothing I've never done before. Threads cleaned, headset greased and set with proper preload. Crank was dry, greased that. Front hub was dry, greased that.
When I pulled it out of the box, front tube had a hole in it, front fender had a moderate dent in it, handlebar had gouge into the metal.
After a phone call to Pacific cycles in Olney IL by the number on the frame, I had a new tube, fender, handlebar, and groups in my possession.
When the fender arrived, it was the wrong color. After submitting photos of the bike to Pacific cycle via email, they sent me the proper color and let me keep the old one.
After the roads were clear enough here in northern Chicagoland, I took it for the first ride. Hit a bump and the rear fender mount at the chain stay broke. This caused the fender to drop onto the tire and then go under the bike's rear tire. I somehow didn't crash.
Phone call to Pacific cycle, they asked me why I am having so many issues. This is a brand new bike less than a month old. I ordered it on new years day. This is the 26th of January now. I was then accused of fraudulent warranty activity because I buy a lot of Pacific cycle products, mostly Schwinn. They always have issues and I use that warranty to make sure my stuff is perfect.. But they agreed to send me a rear fender in "good faith". That fender arrived bent. After straightening it out with a heat gun as to not crack the paint work, I installed it.
Currently there have been no other issues. Bike rides great after all of this but chances are other consumers will write it off after one or two small issues.
If you buy this, understand you will be fixing some things before you ride it. Take advantage of your warranty and fix the issues.
