Got it pretty much to fulfill my hipster tendencies. Wanted that feel of clicking play and letting those reels scroll in a sweet cassette of Weird Al's bad hair day. I figured this was just old stock someone was selling, but the device feels like it was manufactured recently. Are they still actually making new cassette players? It makes me realize that plastic in the 1990's was a bit thicker and more durable feeling.
I feel like the battery life is a bit better, but maybe it's cuz batteries have improved in the last 40 years?

I was super excited to try this cassette player digital converter, and for about $20 at the time of my order, this is a fantastic deal! My first transfer I just completed worked really well. It doesn’t have an external speaker, so you have to plug in the included headphones to listen to it. However, as you transfer you can hear the sound through your computer speakers which is nice. The walkman is powered through a USB cable, but also has the option of using 2 AA batteries (not included) if you just want to listen to tapes on the go.
The software CD that came with this cassette capture device is already outdated for my Mac Studio OS and won’t install. I’m currently running Monterey version 12.4. The instruction booklet is pretty small to read and is not very clear or well written on installing the software. It is obviously the audacity program, so I downloaded Audacity from the internet for free; the instructions do list a website you can download the program from.
The instructions do provide settings in the Audacity program to use to record, but they were slightly different from the version of the program I downloaded. I was able to get it to work fairly quickly, once I figured out where to get the program from.
This device has an auto reverse, so it will automatically play the 2nd side without having to remove the tape and flip it over … that is cool! A note about volume: as you increase the volume dial on the walkman, it will transfer at a louder level.
I am a musician and have a TON of old cassette tapes from elementary school through my University days from band concerts, trumpet solo performances and piano recitals. I am excited to transfer all of those old recordings, along with many voice recordings I made of family members over the years, and hope they haven’t deteriorated too much. Let the fun & memories commence!!

The build quality looks amazing in the pictures with hints of metal with the chrome finishes but its all plastic and not even as good of plastic as you would expect from older walkmans. The cassette door feels extremely flimsy and opens long ways for some reason and not along the long side like old walkmans did. The sound quality is ok but not great. Without an FM tuner or the ability to record you are relegated to just playing old tapes you have laying around. This seemed neat but after using it some I’m not sure how much I’ll actually use it. As noted though you can take old mix tapes and pull the audio to a PC if you want. I think there is a market for a product like this but a few more features would make it a lot more useful.

This is an excellent all in one unit that allows you to use it as a walkman style cassette player, or simply plug in the usb plug and use the included Audacity opensource software and you can record and save all your cassettes to your computer. Just an FYI for anyone looking for where to put the batteries there is a small compartment located inside the cassette player area that is on the bottom right. You remove that metal panel and you have access to the battery location. Took me a few minutes to find it. Wish it felt a little higher quality, but it's by no means cheaply made. Overall a recommendation for someone who still listens to cassettes and is slowly transferring them to your computer. I say slowly because with audacity you have to manually edit each song in order to save them as separate audio file. It's time consuming. Wish it had included some specialty software, but for this price that's not expected.
