These are perfect for providing tread on steps. I bought my first pack five years ago and I continue to restock these. They are sticky on the back and you just peel off the backing to stick them on your steps. It's really easy. The price is right, too.
These last about 4-6 months on our painted wood steps, depending on weather and time of year, on our heavily used steps. You'll know when they start to wear because they might not be sticking the way they used to and they might split apart a little. That's when you pull off the old one, pull out a new one and replace it. Super easy. I never expected one tread to last forever, so I'm perfectly satisfied with the amount of wear I get out of these. I just peel off the old thing and replace it. They look really nice and they DO provide good tread.
Though we've only used them on the painted wood steps, I am going to try them on our painted concrete steps. I suspect they'll work just as well on those.
The only thing you have to think about is making sure the treads look like they were placed in the same spot from step to step. In other words, you don't want the tread to be farther to the right or left on one step than another. I took a pencil and marked each step where the left and right edge should be so that it looks even from step to step.

The units were very easy to install, and seem to be securely anchored. The seller recommended waiting for 1-2 days before walking in the but that was not possible.
My dog is hesitant but now goes down the steps. I’m still working on him going upstairs as it feels different to him. Having a dog in winter and safely using the steps is the reason for installing these treads and I hope it works.
As they are fairly new, I can’t judge how durable they are so I left those stars blank.
I also cannot yet post how well they work during an icy winter but will. My fingers are crossed.
Update: These did not work well for me. We have rain and snow in winter and many of the segments curled and came loose within a week. For that reason I have removed two stars from my initial review. Other reviewers have stated they work well inside and in better climates and I imagine that is true as they seem initially solid. They just didn't work for me
on outside steps during winter weather.

I purchased these to increase traction on our steps during snowy and icy winter. It is December so I waited for an over 40 degree day per the Q/A on Amazon and this second day is also warm. These work fantastic for my slightly different purposes. I use these on the ramp of a handicap accessible vehicle which can get a bit slippery at times. Lasted several years, and replacing the worn out ones was quick and easy. Peel the old ones off, take the backing off of these, line them up and stick them on. Piece of cake. For anyone considering doing the same, I'd highly recommend it. The ONLY "custom" thing you'll need to do is once they are stuck on, take a razor knife and slice through where the ramp folds. Easy stuff. LOVE these! See pics attached.

These stair treads are terrible! I know the stairs look bad with or without the treads (spring paint project!) but they were prepped exactly according to the directions and went on easily, seemed sticky enough, then four days later when bad weather came in they began to curl and lift. Within 2 weeks all were like that, some actually peeled off completely. So we got 2 weeks use of them and they are now a trip hazard and another project to tackle with removing them! Do not order these!!
