Product Description
Restyled for 2014, the Weber Q 100 is now the Weber Q 1000. The grill has the same great performance and sleek styling, but adds new aesthetics that are both functional and fun, including larger grip handle and control knobs, ergonomic side handles, sturdy front and rear cradles plus the familiar Weber Q logo branded in the lid. Split grates allow for a grate/griddle cooking combination: Just replace one of the grates with the Q 1000-series compatible griddle (sold separately) and experience a delicious alternative way of preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner on your grill. Durable, but lightweight, cast-aluminum construction of the Weber Q 1000 makes this super-portable grill the perfect tailgating companion. Used on the go, it runs on disposable LP cylinders (not included), but can be a stationary a stay-at-home grill also. An optional LP adapter hose for hook up to a 20-lb. tank is available as an accessory. Reliable starts are assured with the simple-to-operate push-button ignition. Burgers, brats and dogs are easily handled, but a large variety of other foods may also be cooked at any temperatures from low to high. Just dial-in the proper heat setting by adjusting the infinite control burner valve. May be used with Weber Portable Cart model #6557.

Works . Sturdy and compact . Expensive . But worth it
It is very light, most of the weight is well spent in the grill racks. I really like the porcelain coated cast iron. On our old charcoal grill (which we miss but do not have room to safely use) we loved the cast iron racks, and I was unsure about what the porcelain coating would be like. Definitely lower maintenance. I like it.
This is my first gas grill in a long time, I am more used to charcoal. It does not get super hot, but hot enough. I don't think it would work for some of the open-lid high temp searing that I could do with the charcoal grill, but if I keep the lid closed it works for everything I have asked of it. It can take about 10 minutes to get up to temp.
Q1000 vs Q1200
We were looking at the Q1000 and Q1200 models, and decided the Q1000 was a better bet for us. The three main differences that I could see were the fold out shelves, slight extra lid height, and thermometer on the Q1200 for $30 extra. I saw the Q1200 in a store and thought the shelves were so flimsy as to just be in the way. I would probably just take them off. The extra height seemed unnecessary, and if anything I thought would waste heat. And the thermometer..... well I really don't know what to think of thermometers that come on cheap grills.
So we saved the $30 getting the Q1000, and then for $16 I bought the "Bayou Classic Grill Thermometer"

Bigger, much easier to read, and well reviewed. Plus, I was able to mount it down low closer to the grill surface. With a cordless drill it took 10 minutes to install. Drill a hole bolt it on... that simple. Testing it in boiling water is was within 2 degrees of accurate.

The grill is build very well. It looks and feels very sturdy and the grill grate looks like the same stuff you would see on bigger grills, very nice. Once this thing is warmed up it leave really nice grill marks and makes me feel really good about the stuff I'm cooking. I was thinking about getting the other model with little table on the side of it, but I got this one and I'm find with that choice. So far i;ve never grilled in an area where I don't have something close to the grill to put things on. There is always a table, picnic table, or some surface that I can lay my food on before and after I put it on the grill. So it was NBD for me, but if it is a big deal for you, than you might want the next model up.
All in all this is a super well built grill that is definitely going to last me and I am super happy with. The only thing missing is a thermometer, but i got one of those for like $5 so Im all good.
