Decent kit once modified
4 out of 5 stars
Decent kit once modified
This kit needs a little bit of modification once you get it, but after that it works fairly well. You need to cut the notch back to the center (or almost center) of the divot where you put the drill mandrel. As you create dust, there's nowhere for it to go unless the notch enters that space. I also undercut the bottom of the notch. That allows for a deeper seat and more airflow. After that, it worked just fine. I wished the top handle would stay on, but it's not a big deal to assemble it again once it falls off. It's a great learning tool for kids and those new to this style of fire starting. You get the basics and some confidence before moving on to more traditional or improvised methods.

The Bowdrill kit from PSKOOK is a neat little way to learn and or practice primitive friction fire making. It is great for learning and teaching the basic skills needed for this task. The many reviews I've seen are usually in agreement with me on this. The very few negative reviews I've seen are related to lack of included instructions. I have attached an electronic copy of the instructions for any who may need to use them.
I also want to mention that this and any other PSKOOK product is supported by great customer service. They are quick to respond to each and every customer. Immediately apon opening the box I was instantly impressed with the construction. After further examination of the bow drill I felt like it would last for a long time! The big selling point was that it was a two player one that allows your kids to join in on the fun.
Ok, so I gave it a spin with my kids and it works as advertised and includes everything needed to produce primitive fire, with little effort!
The kit is responsibly priced, especially since it's incredibly hard to find the right wood and dryness to try and make one on your own. I give it two thumbs up!

I ordered this to see how good of a product it was. This was sent in a very timely manner and arrived very quickly, with great packaging. It was very easy to use with the spindle on top of the handle which eliminates the need for a rock or harder piece of wood on top. The paracord around it makes it easier to spin fast, which inturn uses less energy to make an ember. It takes less than a few minutes to get the fire started even for a novice or beginner. It’s designed in a way, and easy enough for a child to use properly. Will be purchasing again, and would recommended to anyone.

So it was a great idea. Taking it out of the box was a little confusing mine didn’t come with instructions or anything on how to set it up. I tried while I was camping and it wasn’t a success. It was a little hard to set up and to actually get, it moving and going so this wasn’t for me but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad product like I said, maybe I’m just a little inexperienced with this. It’s easier for me to just have a lighter in my pocket when camping or even a flint, I find those much easier to use Have experience with this I say give it a shot and see if you can do it

I wanted my middle school students to get a feel for what it was like to start a fire without modern tools, and this was a great tool for them to use. The success rate was about 20-30% (it was a moist day), but all the groups had a lot of fun, have a tactile memory of the effort required, and practiced team work in doing this. I will order again for next year.

It worked right out of the box; no batteries required. We did get smoke and glowing embers within 5 minutes of opening the box. A 7 year old complained that "Wild People" (not my wording, 7 year olds don't care about p.c.) do not have ball bearings. I explained that a grease soaked leather disk as bearing may also have done the job. I just made that up. Is this absolutely ridiculous?
I think that this is a great demonstration of making fire. Said 7 year old keeps inventing new methods to make fire by friction now.
