I got the VTech KidiZoom Camera in blue for my 3-year-old niece, and he loves it. It’s easy for little hands to hold and use, and the camera is tough enough to handle a few drops.
The pictures are fun, and there are lots of cute effects and frames kids can add. It also has silly games that keep him entertained. It’s a great way to get young kids excited about taking pictures and being creative.

Personal Favorite for Preschool Aged Children
This Vtech KidiZoom Camera is the best camera we’ve had for young children, especially in the preschool to 1st Grade age range. Not only can it take photos and videos, it has a bunch of other features that are favorites with younger kids, maintaining their attention and enjoyment. The camera design has young children in mind; it has two viewfinders spaced for smaller heads which is great for children who do not understand the concept of closing one eye to take a picture. The hand grips are comfortable and shaped to fit in smaller hands and the shutter button is near the front so that kids can become familiar with how a camera works. The camera requires 4 AA batteries (not included) for power and a USB cord (not included) or memory card (not included) to transfer the images to a computer. The USB port is a universally and commonly used one, so it is possible that finding a compatible cord would not be difficult. However, this is a little inconvenient. Packaging is completely frustration-free and can be done without any scissors. When starting the camera for the first time, you need to input the time and date. After removing the batteries, I found that the date and time was still programmed. The camera is durable; it is padded well and capable of surviving drops from a child's height. The weight is localized to the sides so that it is more likely that it falls on the padding, protecting the center screen and the lens. The buttons are easy to use; my three-year-old has had no issues navigating the camera and finding the different games she wants to play. She understands how to take a picture as well. The picture quality is what you'd expect from a children's camera. I have attached a picture that I transferred from this camera (the one with the grid). The sound and image quality for video is similar but for a first camera for a young child, this is sufficed. My children (aged 8, 6 and 3) all love taking videos of themselves and then reviewing them again. The do not complain at all of the quality. This camera also comes with four games and four additional programs; "talking photos", photo editor, animation maker and voice recorder. When using the "talking photos" (which is a cartoon character that moves its mouth to your recorded voice), the camera froze. I had to remove the batteries and reinstall them in order to reset the camera. Regardless, I still give this camera a 5-star rating as it is one of the best toys we have given our youngest; she enjoys the games and having her own camera. This is a toy that she keeps coming back to and exploring. I would definitely recommend this as a gift, especially for a child in the 3 - 6 age range. It is durable and has many features beyond just a camera. “Talking photos" but then camera froze. Does not come with USB cord to transfer photos (but is a universally-used USB slot).
