    Incompatible with recent Apple computers
    One star because nobody showed up to my home and kicked me in the teeth, apparently. Another for the design of the scanner: it's small, svelte, and battery-powered. What follows is adapted from my email to Epson support:After a substantial amount of research, and speaking with your technical support for an hour, I think I've found the problem.Epson's drivers and software are apparently written for Intel computer processors, which Apple previously used in their computers. Years ago, however, Apple changed their processors to a different kind—something called "ARM architecture"—which needs software and drivers to be written differently than for Intel's chips. Epson's downloads are only still compatible with the Intel-designed chips, and not the newer Apple ones.Your customer service tried to convince to install yet another piece of software, and surely /it/ would let Epson's software and/or drivers work with my Mac. Not only isn't that second software listed as required anywhere on Epson's site, nor is it listed anywhere on Epson's site at all, but if your downloads need somebody else's software to function, then it's definitively not compatible.Please update your product listings everywhere. Potential customers should be made aware of incompatibility with recently-released Apple computers, and that further non-Epson software is allegedly required to make your scanners work. I'm returning my ES-300W to the retailer from whom I purchased it. I like the idea of the battery-powered scanner, but if Epson can't either (a) update its software in nigh two years, or (b) advertise honestly the scanner's incompatibility with newer computers, I'll definitely look elsewhere.

      Excellent scanner. I think I left a good review on another device by mistake. I meant this one. Very practical. It is however, hard to connect to a network. Not very intuitive. But afterwards, it works great. I use it mainly to scan documents and save them in google-drive folder. It can handle all sorts of document shapes, except long documents. If you try to scan a long document, it will stop and give an error that there is a jam. Other than that, no problem. The speed of scanning is great. The software isn't that sophisticated but it does the trick. You can scan several pages at once and then rearrange them into a single pdf file. Sometimes, when I need to scan a long file, I use my cellphone, snap a photo, and send it to my computer. But in general, I was able to dispose of a lot paper. The only complaint is that I had to crank up the use of my shredder.

      Update March 10, 2018.
      I received the replacement unit today and shipped off the defective unit. If anything this unit, although a refurbished unit, is even better than the original. No scuffs of any kind and not a speck of dust anywhere on it. The scans it makes are even better than the original. All things taken I am quite satisfied.

      I still believe the switch should be redesigned, but I'll be extremely careful of this one just in case something I did in the last 6 months contributed to the failure. (I can't think of anything, though.)

      I am now more familiar with the quirks of Epson Scan Utility 2 on my Mac and haven't had a problem with it in quite some time. There is also the fact that Hamrick's VueScan software now works with this scanner. For quick and dirty I use ESU2. For anything that requires a higher level of options I use VueScan Professional. The best of both worlds when using the USB interface.

      The WiFi scan software for iOS is still very primitive and prone to failure. If I required that function I would only give this three stars. One for the software and 5 for the hardware. The USB interface operates perfectly for me.

      It would seem to me that Epson likely doesn't have any intention of improving the iOS product, Epson DocumentScan. The last update was 7 months ago, before I purchased the scanner. The number of complaints about the Wi-Fi software are huge and I think one of the major reasons this isn't a 5-star rated product.

      ===============
      Update March 3, 2018.
      I called Epson warranty service and after a 6 minute hold was connected to a very helpful representative. They are sending me a replacement unit and I'm to return the defective unit. Epson is paying for shipping both ways. As usual they needed a credit/debit card number to place a hold until the defective product is returned. At this point I am pleased with their service. I'll update further after I receive the replacement.

      ===============
      March 2, 2018
      I have been using this scanner about three times a week since I purchased it in Aug 2017 and before today I would have given the hardware a 5 star rating and the software a 3 star rating.

      Yesterday I attempted a scan and the Epson Scan 2 program locked up. After three failures I noticed the function switch was in the AP position (center) and not the USB position (right). I could not move the switch to a location other than WiFi (left) or AP (center).

      I needed the scanner immediately and decided to open the unit, a very easy thing to do. Upon investigation I found that the small very delicate function switch had failed. It was lying in pieces in the unit. It is really quite a fragile part, far too fragile for something so important in a unit this expensive.

      I examined the functionality of the switch and found the two terminals that needed to be connected for the USB function and soldered them together. The unit is again working properly using the USB interface, but I have given up the capability of using either wireless function. To me this is a workable but not acceptable trade off. I won't be recommending this scanner to my friends and family until or unless Epson revises the design and uses a more durable switch.

      So far I have been truly impressed by the quality of this product. It scans faster than my Canon Maxify GX7021 printer/scanner/fax - at equal quality! As a legal assistant working remotely, it is excellent for client meetings; I can efficiently scan documents in a very timely manner, and the unique feature of the card reader makes this a truly all-in-one product as a remote worker (I would not have an efficient alternative to scan insurance cards, etc.).

      Setup isn't as quick and simplified as I've experienced with most modern products, or which I expected from a large company such as Epson, but it is not difficult by any means. After completing just the basic, initial setup, the scan button on the scanner did not function (I could only scan through the software). Ultimately, I had to complete four other software installs (one update and three features) and it works. Seems odd that this wouldn't all be part of the intial software download, but... so be it.

      Very sturdy, quality, well-designed compact product!

      (Note: I only provide my product reviews based on whether the product provides the features I was expecting, not something that it doesn't purport to provide in the first place.)

      This is a great idea and in practice works really well however it has a reliability issue that makes it useless and not one to buy.

      We are on our second one of these. The first one worked for a number of years and scanned a LOT of paperwork, allowed us to eliminate files and files of redundant paperwork that we were able to quickly scan and then shred. After four years that first one started showing a thick black stripe down one side of the scan, about two inches wide.

      Well we thought, thats not good but it has done a lot of scanning so maybe it just wore out. So we bought another one of the same make and model in February 2022. That one has done far less scanning that the first one, and today it shows the same thick black stripe down the scan. This is about 2” wide along the right hand side of the top scan. I googled this and guess what…. Common problem with no help offered by EPSON. This is out of warranty now by just a few months.

      Hence this review, two EPSON ES300W units, both failed in the same way. It is not a clean scanner issue, it is not a paper issue, it is a hardware fault. The best solution seems to be to buy a broken unit online and then swap the part over. We should not expect to have to do that with a brand with the value of EPSON.

      We need another document scanner, it will not be an EPSON one.

      Vi vários vídeos e avaliações sobre este scanner. Mas na vdd ele processa poucas folhas juntas. Pois puxa várias de uma vez então terá de reiniciar o processo. Cupons fiscais tem de passar um por vez, e não pode ser muito comprido pois senão da erro. A interface do app é simples e precária. Falta muitos recursos, que os vídeo dão a entender que o produto possui, mas na verdade não tem. Perde a conexão Wi-Fi com frequência, porém é mais fácil utilizar no smartphone do que no computador. Não é muito intuitivo. Não consegui começar um trabalho e termina lo em outro momento. E muito menos juntar trabalhos. Portanto tem de conferir tudo antes de finalizar. Quando diz que pesquisável , significa que localiza o arquivo conforme foi armazenado. Não é possível buscar palavras contidas no arquivo scaneados. É provável ter de usar um editor de pdf para essa função. Mas adianta o processo por ser mais rápido que o scanner de mesa, comum em multifuncional. Devido ao preço é necessário verificar o tempo economizado irá cobrir os custo do produto. Na minha opinião só vale a pena para pequenas empresas, que estão em processo de organização eliminando arquivos físicos.

      Really like the scanner, works great for all my needs. Very fast doing 2 sided letter and legal pages. Card reader workers on most cards some lamimated cards are to thick to go through but not the end of the world. My only complaint is the locking mechanism is sticky so opening it can be a bit tricky.
      But over all very happy i found it.

      I tried three different scanners and chose to keep this one because it was the most versatile.
      - Easy to name scans individually or a few at a time while saving them (others automatically named them numerically).
      - Scans both sides at the same time when needed.
      - Not recommended for photos but I purchased mainly to scan 4x6-inch color photos and it does a great job without scratching images (cheaper Epson and another brand scratched horribly).

      It does not work well (or at all) for black&white photos but does so well with everything else.
      A bit heavy for a portable but its quality and versatility make it a very good purchase.
