There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
The filter is better then I expected and it grabbed more then any net I have used. Cleaning the filter afterwards was so easy too.
I highly recommend this product for anyone who is into axolotls or fish. It will definitely help keep the tank clean and do water changes smoothly with ease and great results!
The bad: As expected, you have to stop and clean the filter a lot. I don't think there is a way around it. Worse, though, the unit just hums sometimes when you turn it on. You have to remove the plastic collar and manually spin the rotating fin, reassemble then try again. This is clearly a quality issue, and I'm sure in the near future it just won't spin anymore. For that reason, the price is a bit high.
Bottom line is it does what I need it to do, but the poor build quality will result in it not lasting long.
I didn't know there were ones like this that recirculated the water back in, allowing you to clean fully without dropping the water level, so I got this and tried it this morning.
And LOVED it. Totally and completely.
First, my advice - start at the back edge of the tank, since as the water clouds, it'll be harder to see. I started at the front so before I hit the half way point it was already too cloudy to finish easily that far. Had I started at the back, the cloudy water wouldn't have mattered.
Cord is more than long enough, and it has an extension for even deeper tanks. I was worried the water would come out under pressure, since this wouldn't submerge in my shallow tank, but it doesn't, it just trickles out as you can see in my video.
It does an awesome job - I was amazed at what I saw it pulling out from around and under the gravel, that my normal siphon couldn't hit. I do testing of all sorts of levels every month or so, and can't believe my numbers have been as good as they've been with all this gunk hiding under the gravel.
This should be something EVERY aquarium owner has. I'll start doing this every month or two when I'm doing weekly water changes.
Filter also has a cartridge that you can reverse to use as a suction device, but I can keep using the one I always use for that during water changes, I don't need this function, but it would be handy for people with larger tanks or who can't rely solely on gravity and siphoning.

Marche très bien.
At first I was disappointed thought it didn't have all that great a suction power but the problem was the water level. It needs to cover the vents at the base of the unit or it cannot suck like it should and will gurgle with too much air. Get it under the water and wow, picks right up! Can't recall if description says gph on its suction ability but it hums right along with plenty of power for the job during water changes. I added photos, the one showing the black section above the suction tube with holes mid-way...those are the holes that need to be under water level for good suction.
It is a tall unit, not meant for small tanks, best with deeper tanks. Mine is 21 inches deep, filled to about 14 or 15 inches and I think that is about as shallow as I can get away with and have this unit work. Actually I can go lower by removing the extension from the tube end, I believe I mentioned minimum levels answering a question on this product so you can review those if need the info. You can angle it to ensure the vents are under water level, but only to a point. All the pieces are removable as well so you can vary the height up & down with the gravel filter extensions or the water suction tube.
The filters that attach to the unit are easy to change out and of fine mesh so they trap the most minute particles. Changing the cap on them is all that is required to switch from suctioning crud from tank bottom to sucking water for water changes. The different cap has the hose end in place & directs the water flow straight to the included hose for water changes rather than filtering it. Again, suction is directly affected by water level and it works fantastic provided water is adequate level but fizzles right down to nothing if not.
The included hose itself is crimped from too long in the same position in packaging I assume. Still works but 3-4 major crimps present, it is a good diameter for water changes forgot to check exactly what diameter it is I'm guessing 1/2 inch ID.
The electrical cord is also of adequate length, not too short or too long.
Overall, very good value found in purchasing this unit. Glad I chose this one over all that were available!
