This takes 2 AAA batteries. It fit nicely in my hand essentially how you would hold a pencil. You can hold this and press lightly, medium, or of course with a heavy hand. If you press too hard, the end will of course just stop turning. I often purchase used books for schooling, and at times they come with light (or even heavy) pencil writing in them. It can be difficult to erase 10, 20 pages of writing. It can make your arm sore! This to me was a really good answer to that for me. I was able to lightly hold this and go over pencil marks (repeatedly if necessary) to finally get it erased. On this paper, for example, I wrote (with a mechanical pencil) the first word lightly, the second with medium pressure, and the last with a quite heavy hand. To erase the words, I used light pressure, so this is the LIGHT example. So even with light pressure, it does get the worst of the marks up. With heavier pressure and repeated go-overs it is better. I did not find that it removed the marks completely though, like it might with a regular eraser and "elbow grease". Additionally, when the end of the eraser becomes "stained" with pencil mark coloring, you need to clean it by using it on a non-erasing surface for a few minutes, or turn it over. The erasers are white so this feels like the eraser end gets dirty more quickly than you would hope. Now, bear in mind this was holding it more or less as you'd hold a pencil so it was more -straight up and down- than it would probably be for art usage. For art usage, I had my child do a quick drawing with art pencils. With that (because it was mostly shading), the pencil marks came up absolutely beautifully on her drawing. The package includes the eraser unit with a metal head (to hold the erasers), 2 refill tips that are plastic, 10 of the 2.3mm rubber erasers, and 12 of the 5mm rubber erasers with adjustable core size and length (you place them where you want them in the tip). I found that Amazon had plenty of rubber eraser refills that you could purchase separately for electric erasers when you've already used the ones that come with this package. So you won't be left without any once you've finished the product included in this set, you CAN order more. Overall, my experience with this was good and I thought the price was fair. I would recommend it.
