Product Description
Poached eggs: delicious to eat but intimidating to cook.until now. We created our Silicone Egg Poacher to help you quickly and easily create perfectly poached eggs - eggs worthy of sharing in real life and on social media. We looked at the traditional (and painstaking) water bath poaching method for inspiration, but designed the Poacher for modern cooks with a little more on their plate. The high-heat resistant silicone body cradles the eggs while the funnel shape guides them into the water to prevent the yolk from breaking. A carefully designed hole pattern optimizes water flow around eggs for even cooking. When they're ready, use the handy tab to safely remove the Poacher from the water. With helpful fill lines show just how much water to use and collapsible, compact storage, you're sure to make eggs that are as pretty as a picture. For best result please see images directions.

In that case, I won't try to convince you that you need this, but that it does a really good job.
I love the idea of "breakfast" but in our daily lives I just never find the time to sit down in the morning, and make what I traditionally think of as breakfast, or brunch (eggs, in particular poached, are a strong feature—perhaps because I eat mostly vegan otherwise). This item has helped to make breakfast easier because it makes poaching eggs a can't-go-wrong endeavor. I can do this straight from out of bed before I have woken up.
The procedure sounds long, but once you've done it once, you can do it eyes closed:
1) Fill in a pan with water up to the indicated level.
2) Bring to a boil, then put on simmer.
3) Add a splash of white vinegar into the opening (optional, but highly recommended).
4) Crack an egg in a bowl and pour it in the opening (some might be courageous enough to crack over the opening, but not me).
5) Wait a fixed amount of time (for my pasture-raised jumbo eggs, this is between 4 min. and 4:30 min—by the way, some reviews mention that size is an issue, maybe I do not notice this because I use jumbo eggs).
6) Pull the poacher out (can do with bare fingers because it is silicon).
7) Use a slotted spoon to fish the poached egg out, drain it, and place it on some paper towel (you can also delicate remove the strands of cooked yoke that may look messy).
The result is perfect, I find (or at least superior to what I could do on my own). Attached is a picture of my first poached eggs, used for an avocado toast (OK, so I'm a millennial, sue me! :-).
Final thoughts:
— If like me, you do not yet have a slotted spoon, you might want to get one, such as OXO Good Grips Nylon Slotted Spoon . (Nylon is a good choice if you may end up using this with non-stick cookware.)
— These fold onto themselves and can be stacked atop another, so as to take only a quarter of the space.
— If like me, you love avocado toasts, perhaps you can compromise, save on brunch, but allow yourself the opulent decadence of also owning this tool OXO Good Grips 3-in-1 Avocado Slicer, Green , or go on ahead and buy the combined pack (these OXO people sure are attentive to consumer demand, they were AFAIK, the first to market such a combo!).

Updated 6/13/2022: These work best for frying eggs. The advantage they have over egg rings is that they cover the egg while it's frying. Steam gets partially trapped by lower part with the holes and cooks the top side of the egg. After 30-45 seconds of frying on medium-high heat, so the eggs are bubbling, they are set well enough to prevent the whites from running. At that point the poachers can be removed and a lid place on the pan to finish cooking off heat for perfect sunny side up fried eggs. It also helps to first filter the eggs through a fine mesh strainer to remove the watery parts of the whites before frying them. This is the same trick to I've used to poach eggs without ending up with strings of egg white. The egg white sticks together better in the water if you first remove the watery part of the whites using a fine mesh strainer.
A friend, aware of my liking poached eggs, visited recently with their her OXO egg poachers and suggested I try them. Next morning I did and I was very impressed. I made 2 eggs in one of the cups (did not use vinegar) and both came out fine. On the minus side (compared to expensive solution) were eggs not as much separated and more material floating in water. On the plus side OXO worked faster (much less water to preheat) and clean up was much quicker. Taste was a tie but what would you expect?
Fortunately, the pan that came with the expensive solution will still function as a small Dutch oven. In fairness to it I must add that it can cook 4 eggs in the same time as 2. If I want 4 eggs using OXO, I must use a larger pan to hold both cups and that would slow down the preheating a lot.
Good product.
