I love this paper trimmer. One of the best features is the swing out arm that locks into place while in use and in storage. I don't know why there are negative comments concerning that. It doesn't slip and slide on the table while using it. The scale and base deck grid are very helpful. This product is built sturdy and should last me a lifetime. I have used an Xacto (item # 26400) for many years but a hinge broke and made it even more difficult to use. Using it to turn my study Bible into a Journaling Bible by making insert pages. We also preserve food and cutt vacuum sealer bags to size. I highly recommend this product for home use.

    The best cutter- especially for paper crafting. There are larger cutters out there but this one does a great job for a good price. Works best if you do only one to three card stock at a time. If you need to do heavy duty cutters with a bunch of thick stacks, you would need to consider the heavy duty cutters at a higher price point. You are able to measure your papers as well.

    I've used multiple trimmer/cutters over the years and, though each had good and bad points, my common complaint for all of them was that it was too awkward to get a consistently accurate cut. It took too long to futz with the alignment and hard to get repeat accurate cuts. This cutter is best of class of the ones I've used. There is a tiny wire that runs exactly where the blade runs. It is attached to a spring on one end that keeps it taut and allows the blade to run in it's path. Just adjust your workpiece so the wire is exactly where you want your cut. The precision is near magical and each cut takes less time than without the wire. I use my cutters mostly for photo trimming. I can't comment on longevity yet but it's very well made and very functional for my needs.

    Now I have no others I can compare this to as I have never used one before but I have been watching many, many others online use them and have seen others make not so clear cuts, frayed edges and so forth, or the sizes were just not what I was not looking for, cutter did not lock in, so forth. I just did not want to buy one and not like it and have to rebuy as I am on a fixed income. So I did much research. I ended up buying this one and have been using it for the past few days all day long each day, and am totally happy with my choice! the blade cuts perfectly, it locks into place, has an extending arm, great measurements, cuts up to 10 pages at a time (I should know as I have already tried this one a few times). it has no slip stays on each corner so it wont slip when on a surface (but today I was too sleepy and was using it on my lap and it worked fantastic (took apart a huge 300 pg book that won't ever be used for anything but my junk journaling). I just truly highly recommend this one

    I just received this and put it through the basic paces, and am very happy with what I see so far. I'll update if there are any significant changes when I put it to more practical use.

    tl;dr - I was able to cut precisely on a line without specific measurement; I was able to accurately measure a distance from the paper's edge; I was able to cut 6 sheets of paper cleanly; they advertise it for 7 sheets, but the 7th sheet tends to get scored instead of cut.

    The sheet count is questionable (maybe they somewhere specify a weight of paper for which it cuts 7?) and some specifics of the design could be a little better, but the cutline wire is a very nice addition over others I've used and it seems up to any task you could reasonably ask of a portable paper trimmer.

    Some more in-depth points: Before I bought this, I read through a bunch of the reviews, and want to address a couple points from the negative reviews...

    First and foremost: this is a portable paper trimmer advertised for "trimming office papers, coupons, photos and more". Now... I know "and more" is ambiguous, but I think given the general character of things it says it can do, expecting it to be good for professional card-making (to cite one example) seems like a stretch.

    With that in mind:

    1) Distance Scale Issues

    There is a gap in the scale for measuring the distance from the cut line. The scale on the main body ends at about 3-11/16" ; and the scale on the folding arm starts at 4-1/16". (Some reviews claimed that 4-1/4" or 4 1/2" were not on the scale; at least on the current model as I received, both are on the arm's scale.)

    Also I saw at least one claim that the scale on the arm is not accurate. I did not find this to be true. The arm is "sunken" relative to the main body, so there is a potential for parallax and it could be hard to read the scale correctly, but it is not mechanically off. Again it could be an older model was less accurate, but I think it's more likely that the photo used to "prove" the scale inaccurate was taken at an angle that exhibited parallax.

    While the scale gap may not be at certain distance marks considered "particularly important", the gap does exist - as it must for this design of trimmer. If you need to measure a cut that falls in that gap, you likely will have to improvise. For one-off jobs that can be done. For jobs to be repeated frequently, it could get very tedious. Again note the type of job this model is advertised to do.

    And while the arm scale is not off, it is potentially hard to get a good reading. It would be nice if they'd designed it to be on level with the main surface of the trimmer's body. Still, it's a compromise in support of the small size - hence "portable" paper trimmer. It may make accurate usage slower for cuts measured in that way, which again would be mostly a problem on repeated jobs for which a different class of paper cutter might be better suited.

    2) A few reviewers were unhappy that the cutline is in the middle of the plastic part that pins the paper down, rather than at one side or the other. I found this to be a huge advantage, in that the paper is held in place on both sides of the cutline (unless trimming right at the edge of the paper). The supposed drawback is that you wouldn't be able to see where the cut would be, but there is a wire running pretty precisely over the blade path - and as a result I can use this trimmer more precisely than the previous one I had (which had the cutline off to the side of the plastic).

    3) There were complaints about flimsy construction. I guess you're going to get that with any light-weight plastic product, but... well, it's designed to be light weight. Again: "portable". If you're of the mind that everything has to be made of solid steel to be considered sturdy, then maybe this isn't for you; but it seems suited to stand up to the wear and tear of cutting through a few sheets of paper.

    Bottom line: if the measuring arm were a little better designed to make accurate measurements easier, and if the advertising set clearer expectations about page count, this would probably be a 5-star review. It's still a huge step up from other inexpensive portable trimmers I've used.

    This cutter is AMAZING!

    I've started making my own greeting cards, and rather than pay money for kits, I wanted to choose my own cardstock. Of course, that means being able to cut it down to the sizes I need, so I knew I needed to get my own cutter. I'm used to one of those big guillotine cutters at work, and to be honest, I really didn't trust the design of the smaller cutters I saw. But I figured Fiskars is a good brand, so I crossed my fingers and ordered this one. And I couldn't be happier!

    This little cutter is absolutely amazing! Everything lines up perfectly, and the precision of the cut is unmatched! The guillotine cutters I've used are not as precise, and it's easy for the paper to shirt and cut unevenly -- not so with this Fiskars cutter! Not only does it cut perfectly straight every single time without fail, but the little wire that shows exactly where your cut will be is genius! Seriously, I have used all kinds of bigger, supposedly better, commercial cutters, and none of them hold a candle to this one.

    Es un producto excelente, es el tercer producto que compro de la marca Fiskars y no me he arrepentido, es un producto pequeño en comparación con una guillotina convencional sin embargo los resultados son excelentes, la cuchilla tiene mucho filo y el corte que realiza es limpio sin rebabas ni mordiscos, trae un alambre muy fino que indica exactamente donde se realiza el corte por lo que la exactitud es perfecta, también al presionar la guia el papel permanece fijo y no se mueve con el paso de la cuchilla.

    Trae un brazo que al extenderlo se puede trabajar con papeles de mayor tamaño, sin embargo considero que el tamaño es la unica limitante que tiene esta guillotina, solo podrías cortar hojas tamaño carta y de tamaño menor. Ahora he cortado hasta 10 hojas al mismo tiempo pero tienes que ejercer mayo presión con la cuchilla, en las especificaciones del producto marca que el maximo de corte es de 7 hojas de papel bond normal pero puede cortar un poco mas.

    El reemplazo de la cuchilla tambien lo vende amazon por lo que no tendras problemas en conseguir el repuesto, yo adquiri esta guillotina a un precio de 228 pesos y el reemplazo de cuchillas que viene con 2 a un precio de 89, de hecho por esa razon la adquiri porque el precio era demasiado bajo.

    Considero que es un producto de uso casero o para oficinas chicas, si tu necesidad es mayor no creo que este producto sea para ya que es totalmente de plástico que aunque se ve bastante resistente no se como vaya responder a un uso intensivo, sin embargo la precisión es la mejor cualidad de este producto... Por cierto a diferencia de los otros 2 productos Fiskars que he comprado este trae graduación en pulgadas y centimetros... los otros solo en pulgadas...

    Great trimmer/cutter. Convenient size for smaller items. Only issue is the cutting blade can pop out of the rail at the right hand side through the opening you replace it through from time to time.
