Redneck hot tub - UPDATED due to new model

Redneck hot tub - UPDATED due to new model
I've had this for a solid couple of months now, so probably a good time to evaluate it. I'm going to start out by noting that this is the third one that I bought over the summer. The other two had slow, and not so slow punctures, so I returned both of them after a little bit of use, and I've been using this one since the middle of August.I've used it pretty much every night. I've had a visitor use it, and my son has done too. It's a decent size for me and an eight year old, and I guess if you knew the folks, or wanted to, you could get in with 2 others, but you'd be in contact. As you can see from the photos, I decided to create a bit of a platform for it. That's because the small patch of lawn I have is very hilly/ bumpy, and I wanted a more level pool.So the good things you can probably get from the other reviews. I've loved using it, and am now thinking of moving it into my garage for the winter - I enjoy using it, but it will go below freezing soon enough and I know that the pump can't handle that! The things I've learned are hard to find information on but here's what I got.1. I'm still not sure about balancing the chemicals. I used bromine tablets, used something at the start to supposedly produce a bromine reserve, but every time I've measured the chemicals using a test strip, it registers almost no bromine. I don't know what to do about that.2. Probably related to that - despite using bromine, a bromide solution as above, clarifying solution and cleaning the filters regularly, the water still went cloudy and then foamy. The first time it was after about 6 weeks, the second time after 2 weeks. Both times I was tempted to apply a shock treatment, but instead just drained the water to start again. When I refill the pool in the garage I'll try to be more on the chemicals, but it just may be that I need to just change the water every two or three weeks, especially if it's used as much as I use it!3. I don't know if it's connected, but the punctures both appeared after I pumped the hot tub up quite a lot. Maybe it's better if it's not too rigid. Like I say, I don't know if it's connected, but slightly less pressure in the tub now and I haven't had a leak!4. To inflate the tub you use the same pump that you use for bubbles. If you need to inflate it at all later, it's a real pain to disconnect, inflate, and reconnect. I found it way easier to use a plug in inflator - something like 120 Volt AC Portable Electric Air Pump for Mattress Inflatables with Three Nozzles,5. I also used hot water from the house to fill the tub up. Personally, I think next time I'll just fill it up from the hose and allow the 2 days for it to heat up (which is how long it took here in eastern WA, even in the summer).6. The final thing I learned was...well actually I didn't learn this. I expected it, and it was true. It is brilliant to just sit in the hot tub looking up at the stars. When I was there with my son we saw the meteor showers this summer, and generally this works well and provides an excellent experience for around 10% or less than the cost of a 'real' hot tub. It's a bit redneck, but I'm OK with that and I haven't regretted buying it for a second!***UPDATE OCTOBER 2016So, I kept the hot tub in my garage, and it has given pretty much flawless service. I started using a non-chlorine shock treatment on a more regular basis, kept an eye on the bromine tablets, and subsequently have been getting a month or more between water changes. Quite happy about that. So happy in fact, that at the end of the season, when the price of the spas went down, I bought another one to keep in reserve. What I did not know at the time was that the model has been updated, and there is one quite significant change. The new hot tub is shallower. I'm 6'3" so that is not fantastic as far as I'm concerned, although I can deal with it! It's probably going to be better for kids and people who aren't that tall. Another change is that the walls of the hot tub are thinner - not the material, but the distance between the outside and the water. This means that although it's shallower, there's more leg room in the tub, making it more comfortable I guess when you have more than one person in the tub. They've also updated the heater. I only used the basic functions, but it does seem to have a couple of updated features. Another thing I noticed is that the power cord is now thicker. That's probably a good thing! It's still highly recommended...but...the one I received didn't do so well on its test run. One of the connections between the heater and the pool (that goes to a filter) was a little askew, which meant that it was a real PITA to attach. Really quite difficult to get it tight enough that it wouldn't leak. Also, the bottom surface of the one I received wasn't properly glued to the base of the tub, so it kind of filled with air. I spoke to Bestway about this, and they have told me that they will replace the tub. I'll update this review as needed.*** UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2018So it finally died over the summer - in June or July, meaning that I got just under 3 years use out of it, at least every other day, probably more like 3 out of 4 days, meaning that it was used hundreds of times. I don't regret buying it for a second, but I wish I had been able to repair the tiny hole that appeared. It was on a seam so the vinyl patch wouldn't work, and I couldn't make vinyl repair glue work either. So, I started using the one that I mention above that I bought in October 2016 for a very reasonable price (yes, it was sitting in my garage for almost 2 years). The new one is a bit shallower as I mention above, but it seems (although I may be wrong) that the internal dimensions are slightly larger because the walls of the tub are thinner. The new heater seems a little more intuitive, but more importantly, the connections are bit easier to make between the tubes from the heater and the water circulator and the tub itself. My one complaint that I don't think I mentioned above in my review was just how ridiculously hard it was to unscrew and screw back in all the connecting tubes when you change the water (you have to do that otherwise there is no easy way to drain the water). It was really cumbersome, especially in the winter when it was a bit chilly in my unheated garage, and it was way to easy to strip the threads, meaning I needed to use plumbing tape). I hated it, and it always took much longer to do. But no more. The new connections sit slightly further out, and so far it has been remarkably easy to change the water, which I haven't done loads because......yeah, it turns out that using a shock treatment in the tub helps keep the water clearer. And also, cleaning the filters every few days. I should probably even do that every other day. So far what I've been doing is hosing the filters thoroughly, and that seems to get rid of all the accumulated stuff. I will change the filters every 2 months or so in the summer, but probably more frequently in the winter when the snow and cold weather makes it harder to hose those down.I'll add a photo when I get a chance of the new one in the garage. It's still highly recommended in my view!***

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2022
I bought this on a whim on Black Friday for $319.99. It was a splurge and for the price I didn’t expect much. We waited until mid February to set it up and it’s surprised us both.

I had low expectations. I thought it would barely hold water and pop quickly. Not so. It inflated quickly and holds a firm shape. Wow. Then we filled it and it went pretty quickly. Wow. We hooked up the pump/heater and there were no issues. Wow again. We were really surprised at the top cover which I didn’t even think it would have. It’s pretty good and holds in the heat fairly well. Nice!

There were a few quirks and minor cons but overall this thing is impressive. My wife and I have had two dips now and really enjoy it.

Cons:
* The warning sticker thing didn’t come off cleanly and left sticky goo residue on the bottom. I didn’t realize it until it was floating and attaching to us both on our first dip. We had little white balls of goo stuck to our skin and hair. It was not fun getting it all off. I can’t really fault the tub for that. We spent the majority of our first experience rubbing the residue off the bottom and skimming it out.
* The bubbles feature is loud. The pump is pretty loud and the air and bubbles themselves are loud. Again, that’s tolerable and the nature of moving lots of air.
* The heat takes a while to heat the water up. This is understandable since that is physics. More water, more energy, more time.
* The heater draws a LOT of juice. I have a belkin watt meter and measured it. The pump alone is around 32.5 watts. The heater is around 1230. Yes. Over 1.2 kilowatts. Again. Do you want water to heat to 104 f when it’s cold outside? This was able to do that when our low temperatures were in the mid 40s. Impressive.
* The timer function is confusing. It says it only runs once with the delay. I’m not sure what the point is.
* You are crazy if you think 4 people can fit in here. Maybe if they are children or swingers (haha). My wife and I fit comfortably and we are both small people. Three people might fit but you’d be bumping into each other. Forget about four people. We got a good laugh at the hilarious photoshopped pictures on the box of four people together.

And now for the Pros:
* Setup was pretty quick. Instructions were adequate.
* Inflation was quick.
* It doesn’t hold much water so filling it was quick, maybe 20 minutes with a hose.
* The heat really works. Impressive.
* The bubble jets are no joke. They really work and bubble a lot. I expected some puny bubbles. This thing really moves air and creates a lot of bubbles.
* The cover is really nice.
* The pump moves a lot of water.
* The bottom is cushy. We were surprised but how comfy it is to walk and move around on.

Overall I am impressed for the discount price we paid. It feels like a better quality product, which makes sense given the current price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little piece of HEAVEN
Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2022
This is a little piece of HEAVEN on my back patio!

I bought this while looking for a pool. I don’t regret it!

I purchased the SaluSPA Miami

Pros: stylish, practical, only utilizes 177 gallons of water, durable, temp control is accurate, 120 jets works those muscles, easy to set-up, comes with an extended warranty (must be registered within
15 days OF PURCHASE DATE), and it feels INCREDIBLY NICE!

I will however state though, that it says it seats 2-4 persons. This is true, if everyone getting into it is an Oompa Loompa from Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. To be fair, we had 2 average adults ranging from 5 foot 5 and 6 foot tall inside it along with 2 children ages 12 and 9. This combo was a bit tight. However, when my fiancé and I enjoyed some alone time in it (wink wink), there was PLENTY of room! So it’s safe to say, I’d consider this beauty, comfortable for 2 adults leaving some extra wiggle room.

Chemicals: Do not go to your local Walmart and purchase chemicals even though they say “spa” on the front. Here’s why….Walmart sells products that cover up to like 10,000 gallons of water. This is 177 gallons. You’ll have a difficult time going that route in making sure you treat the water appropriately and safely. My fiancé and I actually visited a “spa store” and the people were knowledgeable! We purchased just the RIGHT AMOUNT of chemicals for this spa! It took the guess work out of it and it was super easy to add the product we purchased to the water….and we know our warranty is secure in doing so. The water is amazingly crystal clear and clean!

Spa mat: The floor of the spa itself,is comfortable. Since we have it on the patio brick, we wanted to add just a little buffer between the brick and the spa to protect the spa floor. We lucked out and had a jujitsu grade mat we haven’t utilized in a while. Boom, we put that under the spa!

Bubbles: I hope you like them. You’ll have plenty! When you turn on the spa jets….it’s kinda loud. Be sure if your having a conversation outside, you be mindful that you’ll need to talk louder to be heard. Having said that, your neighbors may know your business….so watch what you say or the noises you may make while enjoying this spa. Lol

Heat controls: this thing gets hot! I’ll be super nice in autumn when the air outside is nippy. Don’t worry, it gets to 104 degrees, but if that’s too hot, simply turn it down to your preferred temperature.

Spa cover: Nice big cover that buckles to the spa. I highly recommend you cover the spa when not in use! This will keep your filter clean also. We live around a bunch of trees, so covering it is imperative!

The extras: If you’re going to indulge in something like this, go the extra mile! We bought a floating solar LED light for nighttime, 2 intex headrests, an extra 2 cup holder tray (spa already has 2 cup holders built onto the heat pump), and we bought a 10 foot cavalier tilt umbrella to go over it to protect the spa from fading, shade, and of course to keep the leaves and pine needles off of the spa top. If you’ve read this review this far…get the spa!

I hope this review helps at least one person.

Oh yeah, I never bought a pool I had originally set out to get. 🤣 A pool is temporary….this is good for spring, summer, and autumn in my locale.

I’m so happy I finally decided to go for it and buy this. Bestway Saluspa Miami with the Engery Saving Lid. 👍💙🩵💗
It took approximately 2 hrs to unbox, setup, fill with water and discard boxing material.
Temp reach 99 degrees F in 8 hrs. I couldn’t wait any longer so I went in 😂 it was WONDERFUL.
I have had a very expensive hard shell spa in the past— this is way better‼️ Softer jets, deeper water level, much more spacious since you aren’t confined to the bucket seats.
I purchased a soft cushion seat to sit on which is marvelous. I can’t wait until tomorrow to go in my SPA again😁
CON: The Manual. Really. Bestway, you can’t have clear, worded instructions!? The pics I can’t make sense of. Also 2 parts I have No Clue what or where they go!! ???
I watched several YouTube videos that are a big help for the setup process.
Buy this! Spend a little more money and get the upgraded energy saving lid. Be patient, it’s takes 10 hours + to heat to 102-104.
I feel that they should have put in 2 filters since it says to replace the filter every week in addition to rinsing it after every use.
But all in all; Fantastic Spa at an affordable price‼️Just be aware you need to purchase the chemicals and replacement filters separately.
