Colorado deer don't mind the scent and still eat the sprayed leaves

Colorado deer don't mind the scent and still eat the sprayed leaves
We just moved to a very high-deer population area so I'm in the process of figuring out what I can and cannot plant to survive the never ending parade of deer coming through the yard. I bought one bush to plant this fall after a lot of research, as everyone claimed it was deer-resistant, would do well in this area, and it was also labeled as such. And as an extra precaution I bought this spray to use as well. So right when I planted it I used a hand pump sprayer to get all the leaves (tops and bottoms) drenched in the solution. I've attached the photo of what the plant looked like when planted and sprayed, and then 2 days later. The deer clearly still find the plant at least somewhat tasty, as they probably ate about 1/4 of the bush. There was no rain during this period to wash it off (though it does say 24 hours after spraying it won't be washed off by the rain anyways).I sprayed it again on the 3rd day, in case my initial soaking of the plant wasn't enough (though the label says frequent sprayings should only be needed when the plant is putting out new growth, and it is currently fall and the plant has not put out new growth that needed to be sprayed in the last 3 days), and then about 30 or 40 minutes later I was out on the deck with a view of the bush and I watched a family of 3 deer come and hang out by the bush and nibble on it. They spent a long time there, with their noses right in the bush, so the smell clearly doesn't bother them much. I've attached another photo of the deer with her nose right in it right when the smell is most potent (sorry it's not great quality, I was pretty far out on the deck and only had my cell phone to snap it). It's very hard to describe the smell. It's not horrible but it's not pleasant either. Rotting mouthwash would be the best way I could think to describe it. I can't smell it a couple hours after spraying unless I put my face really close to the plant though. So as of right now, I'm giving this 3 stars because for all I know, the shrub might have been eaten completely to the ground already if I had not sprayed it with this, I really don't know. I think it's possible that they take a couple bites each and then decide it's not that great and move on, but as I've only used it on one plant and it's only been a week I cannot say for certain if the spray is helping or if this plant itself just doesn't taste that great to them. I plan on doing more experiments with more plants in the future (ie. getting 2 plants of 1 type and spraying one but not the other) and I will update my review when I can reach more of a true conclusion as to whether or not it makes a difference. For now, all I know for certain is that deer will still come through your yard (which I consider a good thing as we enjoy seeing all the wildlife), it does not actually repel deer at all from the plant/area and they will still eat it at least to some extent.

The spray works as advertised. It has prevented deer from eating the bushes.
HOWEVER, the bottle came without any wrapping like it used to. It was just sitting in the amazon box mingling with the other stuff I ordered.
Now, if you've ever smelled this stuff you know why it needs to be wrapped up. There was the slightest leak in my bottle and now everything in the box smells like warm death. Life lesson...order smelly animal repellant separately from anything else you don't plan to immediately throw out. Good grief.

I put this stuff on in the beginning of the summer and waited the entire summer to do my review. Here's how it went. I sprayed this on my hostas, which last year the deer made their personal salad bar. Okay I got to be up front here and tell you this stuff stinks to high heaven. It smells like some sort of urine. Really strong. I told my husband to be careful not to get it on his clothes because he kept walking past the hostas and I said if you get this on your clothes, I'm throwing them away. They will not be brought into the house. But I had high hopes. Day two I go out to check the hostas and there are so many flies there I can't believe it. Everywhere. But only on the leaves where I sprayed - they didn't bother me at all. I thought uh-oh. This might not be what I want. Day three still flies. Maybe a little bit less. Day four flies but less. Day five until the end of the summer, no smell and my hostas made it all the way through the season unscathed . I never had to spray them again and all the leaves are still there! I didn't believe that I wouldn't have to spray them again after rain, but you don't! And we got a lot of rain in Michigan this year. So I would say five stars and I would definitely purchase this again. Thank you for saving my hostas. Next year. I'm putting it on more of my plants because obviously the deer moved on to the other plants in my yard.

I live in Minnesota, in a wooded area with lots of deer. We've had no problem with deer eating our plants (mainly hostas and bleeding heart) since spraying this repellent on the plants. So it works in that sense. But boy does this stuff reek. Smells like someone who didn't drink any liquids but only ate asparagus for 10 days straight took a leak into a bottle, but then sprinkled some mint leaves in it to mask the smell. Terrible smelling as you apply it, but smell soon dissipates and we couldn't smell it at all the next day

I've been trying various products to keep deer away from my plants and yard for years, including sprays, balls, and electronic devices. Fortunately, I decided to try Bobbex. It works far better than any of the other products I tried - no deer in my yard for a month so far. Highly recommended.

I'm a Rosarian and a Chemist, but anyone with common sense, who reads directions, can apply it successfully. If the spray is used properly every week to 10 days, it is reliably effective. I've used it for the past 14 years for a garden of 38 beautiful roses, and we live in a Deer paradise!

Wear plastic gloves and handle this with care. Shake the bottle, then adjust the nozzle for a spray or stream setting. Apply a fine spray or stream from an extended arm's length, from an UP-wind stance.

Set the sprayer using the tip of the Nozzle is adjusted by 1/4th turn: OFF --> Fine Spray ON ---> OFF --> Stream ON ---> OFF. If you have an outside water spigot, wash off the bottle and spray tip, then wipe it dry with a paper towel. Store it in an airtight plastic bag, and tie the top.

For Roses spray the whole plant the first time. Afterwards, every week, all you need to do is spray the buds, any new shoots, and the tender top new growth of the rose bush. Apply in the late evening.

Spray all surfaces of the Hosta Plants. For newly planted bulbs, spray the top soil after the hole is covered.
