About this item
- NO REACH ISSUES: the Meinl Turbo Slaptop Cajon puts the playing surface in your lap so you can play longer without feeling uncomfortable from leaning over; all sounds are right in front of you in a natural position
- WHY IT MATTERS: it saves your back if you can't deal with leaning down on a standard cajon; plus, it's easy to get used to if you're a new or casual player (anyone can learn in minutes)
- HOW IT WORKS: like a mini drum kit, the walnut playing surface produces deep bass and crisp snare tones; these sounds vary depending on where you strike with your hands (MIDDLE: bass, LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES: snare)
- GO DEEPER: the resonating body has a large forward-facing bass port that projects toward your audience; this gives you fuller low-end tone
- ONE TAKEAWAY: the different sounds don't bleed into each other so you have clear separation of notes; this makes your playing more expressive
- THE BOTTOM LINE: you can play alongside guitars at acoustic shows, with your praise band, in the studio, or at outdoor jams; the durable modern composite body reflects sound and has four silicone feet to keep it protected
- BY THE NUMBERS: this turbo size Slaptop Cajon measures 18 1/2" long x 9 1/2" wide x 14 1/4" tall and weighs 8 lbs; its large size has enough volume for any room, and it's about as loud as a traditional cajon
- THE BIG PICTURE: Meinl is a family-owned musical instrument manufacturer and brand established 1951 in Germany; our expert German designers have deep relationships with our builders to ensure you're delivered the absolute finest quality

Meinl Percussion Turbo Slaptop Cajon, Walnut (TOPCAJ2WN)
Meinl USA L.C.
Product Description
The Meinl Turbo Slaptop Cajon is a conceptual step up to a new level. This model is designed to bring the striking surface up nearer to the player, for a more upright playing style. The sound projects forward into the audience from the sound port located on the front of the instrument, which is also convenient for microphone placement. High and low tones, as well as a snare effect are built into the sound board, both of which project forward. This Cajon has all of the outstanding acoustic properties of any standard Meinl Cajon with two sets of snares located on each side of the instrument, each having their own sound port. The turbo slap top Cajon is perfect for ample volume levels. Striking the sides and corners gives more slap and snap sounds, while playing in the middle of the surface delivers deep and boomy bass punches. Soft finger rolls are also easily achievable with its ultra-sensitive playing surface. Cajon are the perfect instrument to use for softer acoustic gigs when a full drum set cannot be used.

It fits well and very confortable to play. Volume and tone are pretty good as mentioned in the other reviews.
About 7 different sounds can be played with one hand (not including mute etc...) on the top board (4 in the middle and 3 on the side).
I liked playing with the side boards as well and the top of the front board gives a nice high pitch slap (not easy to reach though).
It feels a little odd to do the tempo with my foot since the cajon will move (especially if lifting the heel) but I just need time to get used to it.
The snare is centered. I would have preferred to have it near the edge but it may better project the sound through the front opening.
One improvement opportunity is to have the 2 snare side chambers with different sizes. Right now, same size, same pitch...
Overall a great percussion, very versatille and unique.
I can't wait to play it more. Trying to find more time between my 2 toddlers napes ;)
If you are accustomed to using the side of a Cajon, this will take some getting used to, and you really can’t mute the bass port with your palm, but the overall versatility makes up for it and then some. If you are accustomed to hammering a Cajon with your fist, you may want to back off a bit, use some finesse and get a microphone, but the resulting sound is great. Don’t get me wrong, the Turbo has plenty of volume for an acoustic-set, but like any drummer knows, if the rest of the band is using electricity, get a microphone for the drums;-) If you are looking for a single drum that can produces a wide range of sounds, the Turbo is a great choice.
floor cajon (DDRL Gon Bops) I now have a wide array of high and low beats to produce while keeping the beat and laying down rhythms. This turbo-slap cajon is also perfect for smaller venues and groups and as a stand alone rhythm instrument. The 'snare- sound" highs are crisp and clear, the lows are deep and resounding. I use both hands or cajon brushes on this cajon. I've read other reviews where people have said this cajon cracked.upon playing, however nothing has happened to me so far. But I suppose being an owner of other various hand drums as well as a drum set that I've been careful not to whack this instrument too hard. Any drum has its limitations. But so far everything has worked up to my expectations.
My daughter plays regularly for our praise band in church and usually plays the drums. A few months ago, we began a renovation project to remodel the front of our sanctuary, making the drums unavailable for several weeks. We had considered purchasing a cajon in the past but we finally made the decision to invest in one since it would us to have some percussion during this time of remodeling. We also bought it for use at a weekend women's retreat.
My daughter had no trouble figuring out a way to adapt the cajon's capabilities to the regular songs we sing. With a microphone set up in front of the cajon, the sound was a perfect fit with the acoustic guitars and bass. We look forward to using it in the future on other retreats or events when it makes more sense to bring along the small cajon rather than lugging along the full set of drums.
I would highly recommend getting the padded bag if you intend on transporting the cajon often.

Very happy, need a case for it now, if there is one available?...
