I hate those clear glass butter dishes. They're always sliding around in the fridge, the butter sticks to the lid, and they're ugly. I wanted something more attractive and functional, and this Marble Butter Keeper definitely delivered.

A few reasons I like this product:

Soft, Spreadable Butter - Always: This thing works like magic. The butter stays soft and spreadable at room temperature, no more wrestling with a cold, hard brick of butter.
Keeps Butter Fresh: The airtight seal keeps the butter fresh and prevents it from absorbing odors or going rancid as fast.

I love this butter bell. I make my own butter every few days so this is perfect to keep it fresh and spreadable.

Having read other reviews I thought I would comment about what others find as complaints. I saw that some people advise putting as much as 1/2 to 1 inch of water into the bottom to form a seal but this is incorrect, just covering the bottom of the butter keeper is plenty. The water is meant to cool the inside of the bell by wicking through the natural stone so use a coaster under the bell if it is sitting on a surface which isn't waterproof such as a wooden dining table. I keep mine on an enamel coated counter of an antique Hoosier cabinet and when I set the butter out on the table I only place the bell on the table as it is made to sit upright for serving and prevents those not used to using a butter bell, such as children, from damaging the stone. Too much water can definitely cause a seal which would make it more difficult to pull the bell out and cause damage.

As far as complaints regarding the unpolished stone inside, this is practical because if it was totally polished the butter would just slide off the slick polished surface. My sister has a glazed porcelain butter bell and frequently finds her butter has slid off the bell into the bottom of the keeper.

The quality of my marble butter bell is excellent. It is so finely made that no ant could get between the sides of the bell and the keeper which is the way it is supposed to work. What I further love is that it is a natural stone with beautiful striations and discolored pigments making it a unique item in my home. It is nice to know that no two marble butter bells will be the same. It brings a little nature indoors which is not only beautiful but very functional and I will never have the frustration of another piece of toast torn from trying to spread hard butter from the refrigerator.

This actually is working beautifully. My husband loves real butter but I hate using hard butter that's kept in the fridge. Unfortunately in an Australian summer there's never been another option because it will melt and go rancid if left out. We've used this all through November and December without issue. So far it's fabulous and we have perfect temperature butter stored on the counter. I'll be interested to see if we can get through the whole Summer! Note that we do have air conditioning on during the day most of the time but not all the time.
