I bought size 3 and size 4 for my 8-year-old. His head circumference measures to be about 21 inches. Both sizes fit him but decided to keep size 4. I had him jump around to see if it would fall off and it seems to stay in place but we haven’t tested in soccer practice yet. I bought this to prevent goose eggs if he runs into another player going for the same ball. I was worried he would reject this so I was relieved when he smiled with approval after he looked in the mirror. Glad there’s a company that makes this. Something is better than nothing! Suggestions for improvement: better packaging so item doesn’t come folded with two creases in the foam. I think the size 4 may have been a return because it came in a bag whereas the size 3 came in a nice box with better packaging. Update: size 4 stretched out. We are saving it for when he’s older but I went and ordered size 3 for this year.

    I play soccer and I had to use this after I had gotten staples removed. It fits sort of tight although I bought the biggest size. However with that being said once I start sweating while playing it tends to sort of expand and get loose so it ended up being a pretty good fit. It can also work as a headband as well if you have longer hair that gets in your eyes.

    My 9-year old daughter started field hockey this year. At the beginner level it's really just a bunch of kids crowding around and looking down at the ball, so not unusual for kids to knock heads. I'm a pediatrician and a bit of a worry-wart in general, so probably more conscious than most about concussions and neurological development. There is a lot of concerning data, most notably that the risk of suicide in teenagers is significantly increased in kids who have had 2 concussions in the previous year.

    Virginia Tech has done an extensive set of tests and ratings for headgear. I went through all of their 4 and 5 star ratings and the Storelli was the best in terms of price, protection, and looks. A kid wearing this headband who takes a conk on the head is expected to be 84% less likely to get a concussion than a kid not wearing anything at all.

    It does have to stretch out a bit and the kid'll have to get used to it. I found the sizing off the website to be pretty accurate. After it stretches, it looks just like a bit of a bulky headband and is tough to notice especially if your kid has longer hair that just goes over it. All in all, very happy with the purchase and consider it well worth it to protect my daughter's brain.

    My 10 yr old son has been wearing one of these Storelli Exoshield headgear for the last 1.5 yrs. I purchased for him to try and he really liked it. I have recently purchased the next size up for him. We live in a very humid tropical climate and it actually cools his head as the sweat evaporates off the band. We occassionally dose it with cold water and hit keeps his head cool. This cost of this Exoshield is a very small price to pay for banged and a bruised head, or possible concussion. While it is not advertised to eliminate concussions, it is great for kids to wear, just like a nice moldable mouth piece. I have seen too many heads banged, and teeth cracked to not invest in a simple headband like this. I am not sure exactly why they aren't mandatory for players at all ages. Worth the money for sure! JD
