Great Stan but arrived damaged

- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2010Style: StandVerified PurchaseThis is a fantastic stand and well worth the $41.55 price tag. Here are a few things I considered when looking for a cello stand and how this product matched up:
1) Sturdiness and instrument security
With a cello or string bass, this is priority one. I wanted to make sure neither the stand itself nor the cello's position in the stand would wobble or tip with an accidental jostle. No disappointment here. The base is comprised of two tubes about 1.5 ft long set about 2 ft wide when extended and the height of the padded supports on the base are adjustable. I set mine as far down as possible to lower the center of gravity of my cello. With the adjustable locking neck support, you get a surprisingly solid setup. This is about as secure of a cello stand as you can get short of a wooden box stand.
2) Bow holder
One of the biggest problems with cello and bass stands is the lack of bow storage. This stand has a fold-out rubber-padded hook on the back of the neck to place your bow. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done.
3) Aesthetic appeal
I'll be honest, one of the reasons I invested in a stand was to show my cello off so having a stand that wouldn't detract from my cello was a must. For the most part, when the cello is in position, the stand is inconspicuous except for the neck support. When the locking mechanism on the neck is in place, it's hard not to notice, but it's a small price to pay for stability. The stand is colored in neutral grays and blacks so the stand itself isn't much to look at, but it hides itself well next to my cello, which is exactly what I wanted it to do.
Final thoughts:
I thought about buying a box stand, but the idea of spending $150-$200 on something with such a rudimentary function and the fact that the box itself would hide half of the cello's body from view were turn-offs. Converted (i.e. larger) guitar A-frame stands seemed unstable and unsuited for something as large and as delicate as a cello or bass. In the end, this stand was the only one that made any sense. It looks great, it's designed with the cello/bass in mind, it won't put a giant hole in your wallet, and it's rock solid when set up properly. If you're looking for a cello stand, this is the one you want.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2024Style: StandVerified PurchaseExcellent cello stand. It’s very sturdy and the bow holder is a very nice and thoughtful plus. Highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2014Style: StandVerified PurchaseI love this stand. It enables me to keep the end pin out and ready for practice or performance without putting pressure on it or being a road hazard. It's really nice when I play at church, because I can get my cello out of the way during the rest of mass and have it ready to play (not have to adjust end pin, etc.) when I need it. I have also used it for an upright bass. That worked well also, but takes up a little more room as the scroll will slant backward a lot more (make sure you set up the stand far enough from the wall). The bow hook is another great feature.
The best part is that my cello feels very secure in this stand. There are soft contact points to prevent scratches, a clasp in front as an extra measure to keep the cello from falling forward, adjustable sizes so you can get a good fit, and a broad foot base to prevent it from tipping.
I have had this stand for about 5 years now, and it is in great condition. It has been across the country a couple times during moves. The construction is strong and reliable.
I'm very pleased with this product.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2012Style: StandVerified PurchaseThis stand works great with a double bass. In the Amazon ad photos the two supports at the bottom look like they might be flimsy, but they are in fact nice and solid. If you tried to stand on them yourself and jump up and down or something crazy, sure, they would certainly bend, but they easily support my 7/8 bass, which weighs about 23 pounds. It appears that they would comfortably support at least three times that weight.
The workmanship is good, all parts are solid. In the Amazon ad photos, the stand holding the double bass looks light-brownish, but mine is a light gray color more like the color of the stand shown holding the cello. The knob in the back that you use to adjust the height of the upper support feels like the screw threads might strip if you tried to twist it too hard, but again, a little common sense is all you need to avoid that. One reviewer said something about it tending to tip over, but I can't imagine it tipping under any circumstances, including a 9.0 earthquake. The bow holder comes in handy.
If you're a constantly gigging pro nightclub musician you might want something more bullet-proof, but for home use it's more than adequate. I'm very satisfied with the purchase.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2024Style: StandVerified PurchaseI adore this stand. My bass fell with other stands. This is secure. I swing the neck clip around or remove it, and practice with the bass in the stand. But best of all, we added wheels to the back and I can roll it around the house, across parking lots, and even over grass. If only the manufacturer made wheels for purchase.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2023Style: StandVerified Purchase2nd one I have ordered. First one was perfect. On this one, the rubber arm cushion, top left arrived damaged. The rubber cushion itself was chewed up and the end cap bent in half, making it very difficult to close the locking arm. I don’t want to return the entire stand but Amazon doesn’t offer an option to replace the damaged part. Can’t find an option online anywhere to replace it. Don’t mind paying for it, but cannot find one. Disappointed. It wasn’t damaged in transit, it was shipped this way…..
The stand itself is great. Very sturdy and keeps my cello safe. Very little assembly required and is exactly as advertised. Overall, it is perfect, just the one damaged part….
