1. Wash with HOT water, and lots of cheap dish soap. Specialized cleaning agents are a waste of money. Air dry.
2. Scuff, but do not use anything finer than the scuff pad or 80 grit sandpaper. Go for heavy scratches, and no remaining gloss.
NOTE: If armoring rails apply painters tape first, then scuff. Remove tape before washing in step 3.
3. Wash again per step 1.
4. Inspect for smooth paint/remaining gloss, and scuff those areas .Primer exposed metal and rust. Wash again if any scuffing occurred.
5. Paint prept:
a. Shield the back of the cab with painters tape and newspaper.
b. Remove tailgate and cover attachment points, rubber flaps, bumper, and taillights.
c. Remove tie-downs and cover the bolt holes with a 1/2" bit of tape. Finding them is easy as there will be a soft spot.
d. Reapply tape to rails if needed. Don't stretch too tight, and firmly press down.
6. First coat goes on lightly as it doesn't have anything to grab onto. Disposable gloves are a good idea.
a. The roller seems to leave more behind than the brush for the first coat, but use the brush for tight areas.
b. Do the rails last, and start at the cab and work back.
c. Wait for the material to be soft but not sticky, then remove the tape and clean up with a damp rag.
d. Clean the roller, brush and tray in hot water, and set out to dry.
7. After reapplying tape the second and third coats go on great with the brush.
a. Cab first, rails last.
b. Be generous with the goop.
c. Use long straight stokes.
d. Everything else same as 6.
In warm weather with sunny conditions my third coat (applied thickly) dried to the touch in 90 minutes. After the second coat it was already very strong.
Pros:
Drys in a good amount of time
Easy to prep item
looks great when applied correctly
Cons:
Nozzle clogged multible times
Applying a "Light" coat is extremly difficult (it comes out sorta like a combo of spray paint and silly string) However, if left to dry and not touched it smooths itself out and drys perfect.
messy application (it sprays out fast and far when it does; make sure you have everything around the area covered)
Tips: DON'T over apply just to cover a small spot, it will fix it self if you just leave it and do another coat later otherwise it will run and look sloppy. Get a small paint roller to roll it even after each coat(I havn't tried this but it was an after thought that may work)
If you press your nails hard into it and pull it will come off, but abrasions don't seem to hurt it.
Overall good product, just applying it is messy. I plan to do the back of my Ipod with the remainder of the stuff. (May post about it after, if I remember to)
One last note, it's nowhere near as thick as line-x or rhino liner. It's more of a paint with some texture to it.
