Big jar holds my big aids with room to spare!

Big jar holds my big aids with room to spare!
I have really big Receiver in the Canal (They look like BTE) hearing aids and my audiologist sold me a tiny Super Dri Aid Hearing Aid Dehumidifier for them after I experienced moisture issues. They barely fit and the little beads were loose and always getting up into the area where my aids were. I also had some issues microwaving them since they would roll all over the place.I bought this STAY DRI Hearing Aid Dehumidifier because I have a friend who very highly recommended it to me. She also has large aids and we both have issues with moisture clogging the ear molds and lowering our ability to hear well. This is a big container and I love that. It's wide mouthed at about 3.5" and squat at about 2.5 inches (Estimates but pretty close I think.). The top screws on tightly so I do't have to worry if the jar tips over and it is plastic, not glass like my last one.It came with the bead pod (I know it is called something else but you know what I mean.) ready for use. I did not have to microwave it. I like that the beads are enclosed and not rolling all over the place. I haven't had this for long but it is doing what I need it to do and I just love that I have plenty of room for my aids. Previously, they would make buzzing sounds in the tiny jar I had that I could not hear but everyone in my family could. I guess that is from then coming into contact with one another. They don't make any noises in this big jar.So far so good! I am going with 4 stars only because I don't yet know how the beads will regenerate and how this unit will hold up. It wasn't super expensive but I would hate to have to buy a replacement anytime soon. For now, I am just enjoying the space I have and the moisture wicking this jar provides.

It's a good size container. I have behind-the-ear hearing aids so small containers are not as convenient for me. The desiccant pack is huge. I think it definitely does it's job. I can easily fit my aids in the container and it's easy to take them out. Considering the price I think this is a good product. I'm yet to actually microwave the beads to recharge them but I'm assuming it'll be fine. I've done it before with other dehumidifiers.

This is a much larger Hearing Aid Dehumidifier than others I've owned or seen. The screw top is also superior to a press-on lid, as far as sealing out air and moisture. A big plus related to its size is it can hold more desiccant, thus, a larger surface area to absorb a more moisture and more effectively dry out your hearing aids. Also, because of a greater amount of desiccant material, the desiccant package needs far fewer "regenerations" in the microwave to dry it out. The only down side of the large size is when traveling, so I also own a smaller unit (Westone) for that purpose. For the home I highly recommend this larger unit to "dry out" your hearing aids.

Two caveats: Remember to open the battery door fully when storing your hearing aids in the container overnight and only keep the desiccant material in the microwave (regeneration) for no more than 25-30 seconds. You will most likely melt the desiccant container if you go for the full minute. In the unlikely case you feel it needs another regeneration, wait until it cools off and repeat the cycle.

If you don't leave the cap off for long periods of time, just enough time to put in or remove the hearing aids, this unit doesn't need regeneration often (easily a month or more).

Update 9/11/2014: There are two things many users seem to be doing that causes a melting problem with this product's desiccant container. They have to do with the instructions. This desiccator should only be "recharged" in the microwave for no more than 30 seconds (label inside lid cover states that) although, written instructions inside box and instructions on the box itself, incorrectly states "1 minute on high", which is much too long. Secondly, the cartridge must be cloth side up when placed in microwave, otherwise you will burn holes in it and some beads will fall out (this is correctly stated in the instructions, which I failed to read). Hope this helps, because otherwise it is a good dehumidifier for your hearing aids.

Update 4/1/2015: I'm finding that it's safer to recharge for 15 seconds, let it cool and if needed, do it for another 15-second interval. Otherwise, it goes easily for a month or more without needing a recharge.

As a mechanic and outdoor enthusiast in the humid summers of South Carolina, I absolutely love and approve of this product. I've been wearing hearing aids since I was 5 years old. I am 29 and the most common problems my parents and I have had is my hearing aids shorting out due to my activeness. My audiologist first gave us a similar product that worked well but it wasn't portable. It was in a glass jar and the beads had to be taken out and placed in a microwave safe container. I'm sort of clutzy and have lost the beads and broke my first jar in gym class in middle school years ago. Then my parents bought an expensive electrical unit which also worked well but it's not very portable and the unit could not be bumped or you would have to reset the unit and the "tabs" were $5 each at the time. They would only last a week at most.

Finally after breaking my second glass jar either from the handlers from a plane or cruise terminal I knew I had to buy something more portable and unbreakable. I came across this one after extensive research online and amazon reviews. I LOVE it! It's inexpensive, portable, not easily broken, and easy to recharge. It comes in a plastic container and I kept one in my tool box at the shop and took it home with me on the weekends. Haven't broken it yet. I also enjoy the room it has. I can easily fit both BTE units without removing the ear mold/tube from my hearing aids. I also like how the "beads" can be recharged inside it's own container without having to worry about dropping it or losing beads all over the kitchen when recharging them. I HIGHLY recommend this for the price, portability, and ease of use. I wanted to wait at least a year before making a review and here it is.

    Pros:
    Portable
    Inexpensive
Plastic jar, no worries of dropping and breaking it
Easy to recharge the drying beads
Beads are in it's own container, no worries of spilling it when recharging
Fits BOTH BTE units without removing HA from the mold/tube

    Cons:
    None at all
