About this item

  • ALMOST GRANITE Premium quality vinyl laminate sheets from Instant Granite provide the unique look of genuine stone for just a fraction of the price. High resolution scans of actual granite tiles are taken to create true-to-life repeating patterns across the self-adhesive paper. Transform your tired countertops with the realistic colors, designs, and richness of granite.
  • DESIGNED FOR PERFECTION Measuring 36” wide with a choice of various lengths, one roll of vinyl peel and stick film covers a long section of countertop with fewer seams for a clean, professional finish. Instant Granite’s collection of laminated sheets includes today’s most popular genuine granite and marble options. These are the perfect complement and decorative feature for your DIY upgrade!
  • TROUBLE-FREE INSTALLATION With a self-adhesive backing, simply peel and spread across the countertop with the squeegee included in the kit. Gridlines on the back make it easy to accurately measure and cut any size or shape. The no-bubble backing allows air bubbles to escape through special channels for a smooth countertop finish. Unhappy with your application? No sweat! Since full adhesion only occurs after a few hours, remove the film carefully and reapply it to the surface.
  • FADE, WATER, STAIN, TEAR & HEAT RESISTANT Instant Granite’s countertop peel and stick laminating sheets are made of durable PVC vinyl - the same material which printers and sign shops use to wrap vehicles. Sealed with a clear glossy laminate, your counters will hold up to the normal wear and tear of daily living and usage.
  • UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES Don’t stop with countertops alone! Continue up the backsplash, cover a table, line shelves…practically any flat, non-porous surface and wall. These vinyl sheets are ideal for refinishing counters in the kitchen, bathroom, wet-bar, and more. Spruce up your home, apartment rental, or RV without great expense.

I have to start with saying that I was a little over confident to install this after watching all the videos. Let me tell you, if you get it wrong even after 6-8 inches are laid, the instructions say "just remove and reposition" yeah ok, if you are he-man. Once you start laying this, its a ***** to get up again. Thats not a bad thing, that means it will hold and last. But god I got a workout like no tomorrow. I was drenched in sweat, 6 hours of work later. But its great looking. So I rent a home with stained and ugly counters, knife cuts all over them as if someone used them as a cutting board, one drop of wine = instant stain. So figured it was time to do something. I researched a lot and chose this product based not he reviews and all the videos I saw of the installation. This really looks beautiful when installed. A few notes. 1. Get more than you need. My first attempt at the small counter on the right was a mess. I had exactly 6 inches left over because of that and re-doing it. So get the next size up from what you need, trust me, its worth it. 2. When they say do the backsplash and the counter in two pieces, trust them, I tried one piece, they were right LOL 3. Plan out the install. I knew I wanted to take the sink out since it needed re-sealing anyway. So make sure you have everything at the ready to do so if you want. 4. Take your time. Take breaks, and dont let it frustrate you. I had to stop because getting the long counter lined up was a pain in the ass and I had to pull up a full front to back and 3 foot section. That was so hard I was exhausted. 5. On long sections like the sink run (i did it in one piece) what I ended up doing is having a 6" square of adhesive exposed and lined that up. Once I did, I went to the other end and let up a tiny spot, just enough to "tack" it in place to make sure it was lined up. then went back to the main corner, repositioned it so it was not crooked. Once you have that right it will naturally fall into place. 6. While tis is really a 1 person job, two people could make it easier. Not like you can both do things at the same time, but on the ling counter if someone had held the other end of the vinyl while I removed the backing it would have gone swimmingly. So here is my one bad and hated thing about this (other than the hard work it took to install it of course haha). The roll itself. I really, REALLY, R E A L L Y, wished they had reversed rolled this stuff. It is very hard to position right and remove the backing etc. because the roll obviously had been like that for a while so the vinyl had "taken shape" so even a 2 foot section kept curing back up on top of itself and it was really hard to work with. If they had reverse rolled it, it would have rolled down the counters easily and would have made installation 100X easier.

Used this film to upgrade my old school, (and I mean OLD school) 1955 butcher block countertops.
Started off with the easier of two countertops, the straight cooktop. After removing the cooktop, it was a pretty straight-forward installation, and was only slightly frustrating in certain areas, like the radius on the backsplash. film did not want to lay down correctly on these areas, even though we did a thorough cleaning with t.s.p. Finally broke out the hair dryer, and went over the bubbles. That shrunk the film nicely, and it finally cooperated.
My other countertop had a 90 degree angle, and a 2 section cast iron DEEP sink, which I thought it best to remove to have a nice neat installation.
What a nightmare that turned out to be! That thing weighed 150 lbs, and it took 2 strong men to remove it from the countertop.
After watching an online video of how to cut in a 45 degree angle where the 2 sections meet, I decided on just butting one section up to the other. It turned out amazingly well, and the seam is barely noticeable. The guys accidently dropped the sink and damaged the film in one spot when they lowered it back into the hole, but with the hair dryer, and some patience, the damage actually healed itself. The key for me was patience, and tons of water in a spray bottle, along with the hair dryer. Keep the surfaces wet, wet, wet! (and have a few cocktails handy just in case). The reward was well worth the frustration, and at less than $150, I have brand spanking new-looking granite countertops that fool everyone!

My son & I installed this over my old countertop at my house. It was pretty easy to install. It does take two people to install. One person really can't do it alone. You can stick it down & pull back up to move and it will stick again just great. It is easy to cut. You want something like a squeegee (nothing sharp) to smooth out the vinyl and you will need a hair dryer. The hair dryer helps decrease wrinkles. A great product and looks just like a granite countertop. I highly recommend this. This is an inexpensive way to update a countertop.

This piece of counter isn’t attached so “easy” to do. Well it wasn’t. When attaching the backsplash edge to the main counter section it tore. Just with my finger. No nail no sharp edge. Figured ok on me and lesson learned. I cut a sliver of material and “mended” it. Looked ok. Got it to go down smooth and tight. One two tiny air bubbles and got them out. Now afterwards I feel the finish product and feel uneven stuff. Thinking it’s bubbles I didn’t see. Nope,,, tight down contact. And my counter is as deeply cleaned and and I felt it repetitively. No gashes things on it. Smooth as smooth could be. So look at the contact paper and you could see the top clear layer was dimpled or something but not mirror finish. Mark’s here and there. I again chalk it up as maybe something I did. Though you can see it on that top coat. But figure well better than it was. I go to do the other side and was beyond frustrating. I tried several ways on videos and stuck folded rolled trying to get it situated was impossible. I wasted first. Cut another piece ditto. Now I accepted I’ll have to buy another roll to finish the counter due to my waste. But thought ok. Third time same. I rolled it into a ball threw it in the trash where it belongs. Ripped the one section off in the pics. Threw it in the trash and writing this review. As noted how they roll it. It rolls up on itself. Maybe flatten it prior for a day or two. But what a waste of money. Should put it towards new real counters. Out $$ and got nothing to show for. I’d give -10 stars if I could. Don’t buy.

Update over 4 years later: This stuff has stood the test of time. Definitely lost its glossy sheen after a few months of wear, but there are still no physical defects whatsoever. Every time I go into my kitchen, Im happy we decided to try this!

    Original:
tl;dr version: looks great, hard to apply, worried about durability but will update, glad i bought this because the transformation is absolutely amazing.

full version: I bought this as part of a kitchen facelift I had to pull off with extremely little money. I plan on totally gutting and remodeling my kitchen down to the drywall in 5-10 years when I’ve saved up enough to do it, but needed a quick fix to update what i have for the here and now.

when choosing between this product and a countertop painting kit, my main concern was durability. only time will tell how this product holds up, but i don’t have high hopes. already the shiny, glossy loveliness is showing scratches and dulling, especially around the sink where i had to use alcohol to clean up extra silicone sealant. that said, i can handle surface defects the integrity of the product holds up—meaning no holes, peeling, and so on. i will update this review as time goes on so people can know how it holds up.

application is difficult and requires painstaking attention and care. but if you can apply contact paper or wrap presents, you can do this. i have a curved backsplash and waterfall edge, which added extra fun. i bought RapidTac decal spray and a felt-backed squeegee on the recommendation of another review, and am glad i did. other things i would recommend:

    1. get a cheap heat gun and USE IT! it helps you “shrink wrap” your edges for a nice, snug hold.

    2. staple the product to the underside of your counters if you can for extra staying power.

    3. always, always wrap your edges—don’t do like i did
on my portable dishwasher top and think i could apply the top and edges separately. i ended up having to adhere the sides with silicone caulk and then go through agony trying to trim the excess flush without chipping away at what i had applied on the top.

    4. remove your sink first if you can. i absolutely cannot even fathom doing this around a sink and keeping it properly water sealed.

all in all, i love the way this looks and can’t stop staring at the finished product. yeah it’s pixelated if you look close, and yeah I made a lot of mistakes that you can see if you’re nit picking, but the overall result is breathtaking for very little money relative to new countertops.
