Our story

How we got our start
When Chris and Will Haughey started Tegu, they asked: “Could we create a for-profit company that would foster a positive social impact in Honduras through its business?” That was where it all began, and today, we’ve established our fully independent toy factory outside Tegucigalpa.
What makes our product unique
We like to say it’s a new twist on an old classic. We’ve carefully hidden magnets inside traditional wooden building blocks all while creating a visually beautiful toy—one that would fit well in your playroom, coffee table, or office desk.
Why we love what we do
Honduras is the 3rd poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and has one of the highest unemployment rates. We are in Honduras to change this story; we believe the power of job creation and awakening the joy of service will one day allow us to be the ‘employer of choice’ in the country and region.

The Pocket Pouch: Tegu On-The- Go

Brilliantly simple

The Pocket Pouch is a great way to get to know the awesome world of Tegu blocks. This set includes eight blocks in two shapes: four Cubes and four Short Planks. It's the perfect set for 'thinkering' while on the move (in the car, airplane, traveling, etc.), and it also makes a great desk toy or executive gift for adults. This set is packaged in a beautifully designed pouch large and rigid enough to store the blocks for many years to come.

'Click-clack'

It’s the iconic sound of two Tegu blocks coming together. A new twist on an old classic, our magnetic wooden blocks are curiously attractive. Created with beautiful Central American hardwoods and safe water-based finishes, these blocks have proven wildly addictive for kids (and kids at heart) and will encourage the simple joy of creating for generations.

Tegu Building System

Fully Compatible with all other Tegu Magnetic Wooden Block Sets. One thing most people don't realize is that all our blocks are designed to work together. This was a unique challenge that was solved by crafting each block around a core module of 30mm. (By the way, the 30mm cube was the first piece we made!)

By creating a building system rather than a kit of parts, the possibilities with Tegu blocks are limited only by the builder’s imagination.

The Tegu Story

Tegu- 'Tay goo'

Our name is derived from Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras, where we manufacture Tegu blocks in our factory. Helping the nation of Honduras is a foundational priority of our company; you’ll find this in everything we do, starting with our name. We established our fully independent toy factory outside Tegucigalpa to make a statement: we’re in Honduras by choice and we’re here to stay.

Co- founders Chris and Will Haughey

Returning from a business trip to Honduras in 2006, Chris Haughey, Tegu’s co-founder, left with more than a souvenir; he took home a vision to create a business to help transform a country. With a background in woodworking and an appreciation for the beautiful hardwoods of Honduras, Chris quickly found himself pursuing the startup of a wooden toy company. As he involved his brother Will and other talented friends in the venture, Tegu and its signature products were born, lighting a path for profit-driven business to have a transforming effect on the lives of Hondurans. Today, Tegu creates meaningful social impact in Honduras through employment and responsible business practices.

Every time a Tegu toy is sold, a positive chain of events is set in motion; it doesn't just end with a happy child flexing his or her imagination. As Tegu grows, we continue to add jobs at our factory in Honduras where we aspire to one day be the employer of choice by prioritizing long-term employee growth and development.     My son loves these
    Initially, when I opened the package, I was shocked at how little these are, because I was expecting like regular sized blocks, but these are really little. I was also a bit discouraged by the simpleness of them, because the flat pieces are limited in how you can position them. Despite all of that, my 15month old son adores them. He's not much for building with regular blocks yet, and he doesn't understand how to build a tower or do anything but knock the regular blocks over. But he loves sticking these together and building them up tall or make different shapes. They're small, but not small enough to be unsafe for him, and they fit perfectly in his little hands. I love it that this is a toy that can grow with him. Its great for now, and as he gets bigger I like it that I can add more variety and more complex sets that work well with these ones. Im hoping to get magnatiles for him someday, but they're not safe until he's 3. These are safe and wonderful right now, and m guessing they'll be wonderful for a long long time.

      I love these blocks. They are so fun to play with. I got these for my grand daughter. I keep hiding them from her cause I want to play with them. When she finds them she loves to play with them too! She does not like to share with me so I may have to buy more. This is an 8 piece set but it has been a great introduction to magnets and wood toys for my GB. She is 2.5 and she can use these blocks. I think it is the perfect size for her to learn how to use them. She is able to turn them an figure out how they "stick" together. She takes them with her almost everywhere (when I am not playing with them). I was not sure I needed/wanted the carrying case, it has been a life saver. We can get all the blocks back into the case without having to count how many are missing. I am sure we will be able to use these blocks for other building projects as the Grands get older. I would recommend this toy to anyone. I like this size for my younger grand baby. The colors are fun. The stem possibilities are going to be amazing. If you are debating in anyway, my advise is they are well worth it.

      I just discovered this toy today and I paid a bit extra for same-day delivery, and am I ever glad I did! I’m a Granny with 4 wee ones and am always on the lookout for something that will hold they attention when their mommy and I need it most (doctor’s appointments, waiting for the car to be repaired, at a restaurant, etc.)! These block are safely held in the soft but sturdy case and easily can be tucked away into a purse or diaper bag. The blocks themselves are smooth and delightful to feel.
