Old Dutch Unity Cast Iron Tetsubin Teapots
Old Dutch's Unity Tetsubin Teapots
Tetsubins are Japanese-style Cast Iron Teapots that are graceful and elegant vessels for brewing and serving tea. They are considered the best vessels for tea brewing, as the cast iron evenly distributes heat to extract the full flavor and health benefits of the tea. Their heat-retaining properties keep tea at proper service temperature for up to an hour.
Infusing Loose Leaf Tea
Each Teapot includes a Stainless Steel Infusing Basket for convenient brewing of loose tea. (Except the large 'Hakone' teapot/humidifier)
Brewing tea in an Old Dutch Tetsubin is easy and convenient, and using loose tea is the way to go. Because the leaves in loose tea are larger in size - they contain more flavor, and aroma than ready to use tea bags.
Old Dutch Provides the Best
Our Tetsubin Teapots are hand-crafted using specially purified Iron and lined with durable Glass Enamel.

ODI's Tetsubin Tea Tips
Your teapot is intended for brewing and serving only. Do not use your teapot to boil water. You may, however, keep your teapot warm over a tealight candle if desired.
Pre-heat your teapot: Pour a small amount of heated water into the teapot, let sit, swirl and discard.
Place loose tea into the stainless steel infuser. Adjust quantity according to tea type and taste.
Pour the water into the teapot, cover and steep 3 to 5 minutes or to taste. Remove infuser and wet tea leaves.

With over 30 different Cast Iron Teapots to select from, Old Dutch offers something for everyone.
Which Tetsubin is right for you?
Whether you're serving tea for two or for an entire family, we offer a wide variety of Cast Iron Tetsubins to choose from.
Our biggest Tetsubin, the 3 Liter 'Hakone' can even double as a humidifier for your home.
The tiny 11 oz. 'Tokyo' is small enough to be your portable and personal teapot.
From elegant and traditional to colorful and loud, Old Dutch carries many designs to suit your personal taste.
Choose your Cast Iron Tetsubin and make a statement that best describes you.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2024Size: 11-OunceStyle: HakoneVerified PurchaseI specifically bought this 101 oz. (3 liter) tea kettle for us to take on our camping trips. The large capacity allowed us to make coffee and have hot water left over for washing dishes after our meals. It worked beautifully! Because of its cast iron material, it also kept the water hot until we needed it, even if the fire had burned down and the kettle was off to the side. Since we just had water in it, I would just let it air dry before storing it. But the inside is nice and slick, so wiping it out shouldn't be a problem if needed. I also kept the box and bubble wrap to protect it 1) in transporting it (especially the lid from bouncing around and 2) to protect the other things around it from getting soot on them. We'll most likely only use this over a fire pit, so I'm not concerned about trying to clean the outside. The black color helps hide the soot too, so unless you touch it, it doesn't look dirty! 😎
I would highly recommend this tea kettle for anyone who loves camping and cooking over a fire!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2016Size: 52 ozStyle: SagaVerified PurchaseThe crown jewel of my teapot collection. Cast iron teapots have become my go-to because of their heat retaining properties. I have owned ceramic and glass as well, but since buying a small secondhand cast iron teapot at an antique store, I was amazed and needed a large one as well for when there's more than just me around (I call it my "party pot").
It has an internal, solid porcelain enamel that keeps the inside from rusting. It has an appropriately medium-large straining basket within. The handle is very sturdy. You'll probably want a cloth, oven mit, or pot holder when handling the lid once there's hot water inside, as the metal is very conductive to heat.
I purchased a warmer separately that is also made of cast iron. I rest the teapot on top of it and I insert an unscented tealight candle underneath so to keep the tea hot for several hours while I sip on it. It invaluable to have a piping hot cup of tea for every cup with minimal work. Without the warmer, you can expect it to slowly lose heat, but it will remain hot for an hour or two.
If I'm binge-watching a show, the warmer is very helpful. I once went through two or three 40oz teapots per day by myself when I was watching a particular series.
It has a fine layer of dust in the photos because I'm lazy and haven't wanted this much tea in a little while. Just ignore that. It is beautiful. Can for comparison.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2022Size: 52 ozStyle: SagaVerified PurchaseThis teapot looks really nice and holds a decent amount of tea. It doesn't drip when pouring. The handle stays cool. It's easy to fill, pour and clean. I use a tea light candle warmer with mine (2 candles) and it keeps the tea nice and hot for hours at a time (I use the Stonebriar long burning tea light candles - also purchased from Amazon). I follow the instructions given by the manufacturer and rinse it out with hot water from my kitchen faucet while the pot is still warm, then thoroughly dry it and so far no rusting. I believe it will last a long, long time if I continue to take care of it properly. The strainer that comes with it works great. The handle did come disassembled, but my daughter's boyfriend was able to insert the handle for me (it just look a bit of strength to get it into the holes). If you don't have a fair amount of strength and don't have someone to help you, I wouldn't recommend this teapot since getting the handle in would be impossible for someone like me (a 56 year old woman, without a lot of strength). Otherwise, it's a really nice teapot and I highly recommend it!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2013Size: 52 ozStyle: SagaVerified PurchaseEver thought to yourself - "gosh, wouldn't it be awesome to drink tea AND work out at the same time"? well folks, here is your answer!
The pot holds around 5 mugs of tea, so probably 8 dainty cups if that's your thing - but this teapot isn't for dainty people. No sir, this teapot laughs in the face of those flowery china cups and scoffs at the lace doily they're sitting on. If Caterpillar or John Deere made a teapot, this would be it. Its well constructed, cast iron exterior with a ceramic coating on the inside. Options? well...lets face it folks, its a teapot - still, it pours very well (cant say that about every teapot I've used) and comes with a basket to hold the tea leaves. It also has a lid and a handle, both useful in a teapot, and a spout - that about covers options.
SO - what is it like to use? Well for one, it holds enough liquid to make it worth using - I like big mugs of tea, and I like to drink more than one, and this baby serves up 5. It does a decent job of keeping the tea warm and its easy to clean. Downsides? Well - you need to get picky to find some, but:
1) The lid could fit better - it won't fall off (unless you're swinging the pot around - which is flat out dangerous, see point 2) but it has some movement side to side and isn't exactly a tight fit - hasn't caused any issues, but figured its worth mentioning.
2) This thing is heavy - seriously, and add 5 mugs of water and pretty soon your fore-arm is getting a work out. Now most of these types of teapots will have some heft to them - they are cast iron, but its still heavier than I anticipated. So if you're thinking about buying gran-ma a nice teapot, best hope gran-ma is keeping up with her workout routine - probably also what to make sure her table is rated to hold a metric ton.
All in all - awesome teapot, love using it.

3.0 out of 5 stars No steam
Size: 11-OunceStyle: HakoneVerified PurchaseThe kettle is very attractive but useless in terms of humidifying the room. It has sat very pretty on top of my stove for over two weeks now. I have tried a lot of water, a small amount of water, and about half full. The log fire has been on for approx six hours each day. No steam at all. So attractive ornament if you want an ornament sat on your log fire. If you want a humidifier buy something else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Luce muy bien
