Not Perfect, but the best option on the market.
    4 out of 5 stars
Not Perfect, but the best option on the market.
Final Update of my review. First a little background. I am Masters Swimmer, I swim 3000 yards - 5000 yards, every day, ( weekends too ). I am in the water at least 90 minutes every day, so my products get thoughly tested. After buying and trying the APGTEK swimming MP3 player, I am circling back to this one. The only issue this player has is it seems to leak after a while. Something I noticed on other players is they silicon the screw holes, and all openings to ensure water can't get in. This one does not have any silicon over the screw holes. But the claimshell does have a rubber seal between the two parts. I am seriously considering buying another one of these, and then adding some water proofing to help keep the water out. Other than that, this is the by far the best swimming MP3 player on the market. Easy to load music on it. To turn it on you just hold the play button for a few seconds and it starts playing your music. Buttons are logically placed making it easy to adjust volume, and skip tracks. The low profile design and clip is excellent. When swimming I don't feel it on the back of my head even during flip turns, and under waters. The APGTEK on the other hand felt like a brick on the back of my head, in which the water rushing by during flip turns would rip it from my goggle straps. Plus the menu and navigation was almost impossible to use if you are not looking at the screen. Any player that promotes the rotating clip is crap. It just sticks too far from your head. The clips are weak, and it catches the water. This one is a clean design that does not catch the water. The first one I owned lasted me almost 2 years. The second one lasted 2 months. I was able to partially repair the first one by taking it apart, and removing the oxidation, then siliconing it back together. But That repair only lasted another 2 months. Now when I plug it in, it gets all hot, so I assume there is a short somewhere on the board. Even with all those issues, I am about to buy another one, because I feel its the best option on the market. I considered the syryn 2, but once again it has a clip that makes it just way to thick. The audio quality was decent, but bass not as good as the Sony's. But the Sony's were too easily ripped from your ears during flip turns and sprints, plus they did eventually leak. Comparing to other options. The bone conduction models, have terrible audio quality, and due to the placement, they will cause your goggles to leak. The over the ear models, like the sony's do not stay on during aggressive flip turns. Other models are too bulky and will catch water on your flip turns and under waters. If they could get these to last longer than a few months without leaking they would be a 5 star product. Hopefully with some sealant on the next pair I will fix that issue. I'm updating my review once again. After a little under 2 months this one has stopped working. It refuses to turn on or charge. The last one I bought lasted almost two years. Sad to see this one not even last two months. I thought about asking for a replacement but I have a feeling The quality of the replacement would not be much better. I'm going to search for some different options for swimming mp3 players. One thing I will say is the included earbuds work pretty well, but the bass lacks kick but they don't leak and they stay in your ears very well. I'm updating my review with some long-term data. I've now used this MP3 player for a little over 2 years. Overtime the 3.5 mm headphone jack contacts start to get a buildup of corrosion from the chlorine. Eventually this causes problems making continuity for audio to come out correctly and for charging to work. I found using some rubbing alcohol and a tiny pipe cleaner does an okay job to clean the contacts giving you good continuity again. Yesterday I went swimming and it wouldn't turn on at all. I thought that maybe the battery was finally wearing out so I took it apart and found some corrosion on the battery terminals, on the main board. I scrubbed it off. Then plugged it in and it started charging again I suspect some moisture got inside causing the issue. Battery still has full voltage and no issues. I put it back together and tried swimming again the next day this time I only made it about 200 yd before it stopped working again. When I got home I took it apart it was completely full of water. My theory is when you take it apart what looks like a little rubber seal is actually silicone sealant and it never makes a perfect seal when you put it back together again. I removed the seal and generously applied some fresh silicon sealant to make sure it's watertight when I put back together this time. Later that evening I went swimming with it again and had absolutely no issues. It worked perfectly. I've now used it for over a week straight and still solid. Just in case my repair did not work I went ahead and ordered a second one. Of course when the second one arrived I tested it had absolutely no issues. One thing I did notice is the new one the volume does not go as loud as my old one. So I don't know if they change the design in that respect. If you have issues with yours I recommend taking it apart removing the seal in generously applying fresh silicone sealant after you verified the internals don't have corrosion and are bone dry. Also be sure to test it to make sure it can charge while you have it apart before you put back together. Give it a few hours for the silicone to dry, and gently screw it back together. But don't over tighten it. If you bought one and it doesn't work it's pretty easy to fix. I swim laps at my local gym 5 days a week. Everything from Fly, 500s free, and even aggressive sprints. I have tried several waterproof MP3 PLayers. Thus far this has been the best one yet. Here is my break down of experiences. SEWOBYE Waterproof MP3 Player Small design, light weight, easy to transfer data, easy to charge, easy to clip onto goggle straps, does not leak. Volume goes very high, higher than you even need. Only con is the included earbuds are too long. 12" is a good length, and these are almost 20" long. The result is the water rushing bye will tug on the wires. If you get this player I recommend you also get the H20 earbuds with the Short cord. Those paired with this are almost perfection. The included earbuds are a little weak on the BASS, and the earbud tips are a little hard, causing discomfort once you get them jammed into your ear canal. They work, and don't leak, but upgrading to the H2O earbuds is a huge upgrade from these and worth every penny. The low quality ear buds are the only reason for loosing a star on the rating. Finis Duo Pain in the ass to hook on to your goggles. Once you get them hooked, and you adjust their position to be at the right spot for the music to be heard, they cause your goggles to leak. This might vary depending on what goggles you use, but I use the Form Smart Goggles, and this was my experience. Sound quality was not the best. Under water they are a little better, but bass is extremely weak. Sony Waterproof Walkman Easiest to put on, but the earbud tips do not fit well. They are either too loose cause water to get around them, or too tight not allowing your to get them deep enough into your ears. Plus I had to adjust my stroke so my shoulder wouldn't hit them ripping them out. Aggressive flip turns, forget about them. The water rushing by will rip them out of your ears. They easily leak and when they do, they stop working for a few days til they dry out, then they will start working again. Plus the volume doesn't go near high enough once you are under water.

    • Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2019
I have purchased a similar product under a different name and recently purchased this product and so far have been very impressed with this player even more than the previous version. In fact, I have used many, many different MP3 players for swimming. I swim almost two miles a day and could not get through the boring cadence without the help of music. I have found that this is the best player with all the features that are important to me. In fact, this is the only swimming MP3 player I have ever had to turn down the volume on, which is impressive.

The volume is key, many players just can't be turned up loud enough to compensate for the water and this player can go very loud, which is good. Also the ability to feel the buttons (who cares about a screen when you have the player on the back of your head) to move forward/backward is fantastic. Yes, the controls and the limited options are simplistic but that is exactly what you need when your doing serious lap swimming and cannot fiddle with controls. The price is excellent on this product as well. Loading the music is simple as well, just pop it on the old PC and voila, it is a flash drive. No hassle with some stupid music file program like other asinine players. I really like the way it clips as well, you clip it to the back of your goggles. It's a small nit, but not crazy about the jack input being on the side, wish it was on top but it works fine as is.

However I haven't used the ear buds at all, so can't vouch for them. But the H20 short cord ear buds really sound well combined with this excellent player. I have found that the biggest weakness for any underwater MP3 players are the ear pieces. If you are kicking against a wall when making that reverse very few ear buds can take that pressure. The H20 Surge Plus (short Cord for lap swimming) ear buds and the H2O X1's are excellent but pricey, you can check out my reviews there. These additional ear buds are an investment but they do a great job underwater. You can also use the extension this MP3 players provides to extend short cord ear buds, if needed.

I have loaded 1200 MP3 songs (192k each song), really happy it's an 8k player. My impression is that this player will play songs in alphabetical order by artist only. So if your playlist is set up that way, then you should be fine with their method but I hate hearing multiple songs by the same artist in a row and prefer mixing them up. The key feature on this product is the shuffle feature and the ability to play a set playlist in the order you want to hear them play. I use that shuffle feature when I get bored with my playlist but the other feature with this product is that it will play your playlist if you put numbers in front of the name or tags. I use a couple of simple free Windows programs called Rename ( a simple app) or Mp3tag (this is a more complex app, but much more flexible if you learn it) that will automatically add numbers to the name of songs I want to hear, in whatever numerical order I want them to play and this player will play them in that order. It also will pick up from that last song the was played previously the next time you turn on the player. (It's a simple feature, but actually have had players that go back to the first song in the list after the player was turned off.)

Also some helpful tips on using waterproof ear buds:

      1. Start with the larger ear bud rubber ends first then work your way down to the smaller sizes if that doesn't fit. If you use the larger sizes, you get a tighter barrier against the water.

      2. Some people use vaseline (yuck, can you imagine putting that in your ear) or wetting the ear buds lightly in the water before you place them in your ear, they think it secures them in the ear better. But I disagree and I have found the best way to keep them in your ear is to use ear swabs and briefly wipe your ear where the buds go (outside of you ear canal, not the inside). That way you're wiping the oil off you ear and my buds stay in completely during the swim. This is important because if the buds become loose you will get water behind them and you will be hosed for the rest of the swim. However the volume is loud to overcome that with this player, just need to remove the water reset the bud in your ear.

      3. When you insert them in your ear pull back the top of your ear with your opposite hand, that will stretch it and allow the ear canal to gently wrap snugly around the ear bud.

      4. If you use the Tennmak foam ear buds I mention below, you don't have to do any of this above.

It is rare when the water enters the ear canal if you take these three steps or get foam buds and you can enjoy the music much better. Hope this helps been buying all sorts of waterproof MP3 for years since they first came out and believe me, went through the gamut on these and read many dumb reviews. I hope this sheds lights on swimming with music, which I really enjoy and helps you avoid the learning curve I had to go through. Happy swimming!

      Updated 01/23
I now also use the Tennmak 12pcs Ultra Strong Earphone Memory foam ear tips or any similar products in place of the rubber ones that come with any buds. Just make sure whatever bud tips you purchase sit tight on the ear bud knob so no water gets in. I tried the Tennmak and found that the foam tips expand when you are in the water and provide a much better barrier against water getting inside your ear behind the earbud and ruining the sound. You do need to replace the foam tips since they degrade over time a but you get about 12 for 8 dollars so cheap enough and provides a strong barrier. I also swim a great deal of laps each time so this advice is for those swimmers that do a lot of laps and push against the wall, that's a lot of pressure for ear buds to take. Casual swimmers will be fine with standard earbuds. I highly recommend the Tennmak ear buds with foam tips combined with the Sewobye Waterproof MP3 Player and the H20 short cord ear buds an outstanding musical swimming experience.

I swim every day. To keep me company in the water, I have used for a long time a bone conduction waterproof headphone. But it is not perfect. Bubbles from breathing and water movement around your ears make the enjoyment of good music or spoken word difficult. You also have to plug your ears very well or quality of sound will be even worse. The design of this product offers a good solution to both problems. Sound quality is GOOD, not so affected by the water, and the earphones PLUG already your ears. I mount the player on my goggles strap, behind my head and I am ready to go. 8GB are enough for a lot of songs or books. I was afraid that the hole for the jack of the headphones would eventually doom the water tightness of the player but I have had it for a while and it is still working flawlessly. I can see how it is well engineered in all aspects, hw, controls,, manual, instructional video. Even if it is recommended to put 48 hours of drying time between pool sessions, I use it every day with no issue. I just follow strictly the drying instruction and let the player and heaphone be in open air the entire time I am not using it. Also: I have interacted by email with Jenny at Customer Support. She was prompt and professional in handling my initial issues with one channel of the sound randomly going off. Kudos to Sewobye for this too. The only improvement I can think of is to have some way to wrap excess headphone wire to the body of the player. The picture shows how I do it now.
This is a positive review triggered by a good product and no other incentive of any kind. I usually only write negative reviews as they are also the only ones I read before buying things.

So, I had problems with this thing from the get-go. I was sending it back, then decided to try placing it in rice after using it at the pool each time. Well, that worked until it didn't. Now it won't charge, the pc doesn't recognize it. It's a piece of junk to be honest. Plays the same songs over and over again too. I am not very happy right now :(

Customer support from both Amazon and this company have been more harrassment than any type of help. Amazon then offered me a replacement but said I had to pay a restocking fee???!!!! Sooo, ummmm... they are going to put the dead as a doornail mp3 player that was delivered 1 month and 9 days ago, and put it back on the shelf so one of you reading these reviews trying to decide to purchase or not, can receive my 're-stocked' defective player??? WOW! I am in my 60's, I took care of this, it was assisting me with an important component of rehab after a life threatening event 4 months ago. So for both customer support from this company And Amazon to jerk me around like they did, especially it began to affect me medically as it was upsetting. I can't afford to just toss away $60 every month or so, who can? Most seniors can't, that's for sure. So this jerk from Amazon decides the solution is for me to pay an additionaly $12 restocking fee, so they can send me a replacement, and then sell the defective one they are 'restocking' to someone else?? Seems they are also concerned about eating $60. Yeah well, so am I. Hey if they would guarantee me that this junk would no longer be allowed to be sold to anyone, that would be the correct answer. And I wasn't even swimming with this thing, I was doing Aerobic Water Exercise, it was clipped to my bathing suit strap, wasn't even getting submerged, just splashed occasionally. You will need to place it in a bowl of rice after you use it every time AND that will only buy you time until it conveniently dies pretty close to 30 days. I am so disgusted with this item, the people selling it, and the company allowing it to be sold on their platform, that I am now going to think twice before making another purchase on Amazon. Perhaps I will have to wait longer for an item, but dealing with a company that embraces integrity is essential to me. I'm done. My Oregon Scientific waterproof MP3 player lasted 16 years, still recognized by my pc until it died the beginning of May this year. They no longer make them. AND it is/was truly 100% waterproof. AND it actually allowed me to select what I wanted to hear. This defective junk player, plays a few select songs over, and over, and over again.... doesn't matter what you load on it, you will have absolutely no control over it.
So, the bottom line is #1, it is NOT waterproof, NOT at all, NADA, nothing, snap!!! And ummmm...excuse me, but isn't that the main and most important feature for most people even considering buying this thing?? I think the answer to that is absolutely, yes, it is. So, out of the box, this thing is NOT waterproof. And until it dries out in some silica gel or a bowl of rice, your pc will not recognize it, so it can't be charged, heck, the pc won't even recognize. Eventually, it will need more time to dry out, like 2-3 days, will take longer to charge. The sound will begin going in and out, then it dies. Once again, conveniently around 30 days. Seriously, who in their right mind believes spending $60 on something the person buying it needs it to last over a reasonable amount of time, generally a year or 2, right? Not this one, not waterproof so it will die. You can't really select your music either. Oh, and the ear plugs are very rigid. I should have followed through with my return, I realize that. What I am most upset over now is the way I was treated when I reached out for assistance regarding the issues with the product. When you tell a support person that you have a medical condition and that what they are doing, just stringing me along just like everyone before had, that it was upsetting me and raising my BP to a dangerous level, for this person to then ramp up his ridiculous and insulting questions like can you check that your pc isn't in sleep mode?? Anyway, it's upsetting me more writing this, but I honestly don't wish for anyone else to have this horrible experience. This so called waterproof MP3 player is not at all what it claims to be, don't purchase. And for what it's worth, the replacement I am going to have to now buy is NOT going to be a purchase on Amazon. That's not going to happen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super fürs schwimmen geeignet und lange Akkulaufzeit
Reviewed in Germany on July 18, 2022
Tolles Produkt!
