- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2025Just got my Singer Stitch Sew Quick handheld mending machine and I'm honestly impressed! Perfect for quick fixes around the house. I've already used it to repair a torn pocket and hem some pants that were dragging on the floor.
At just $12.99, it's such a bargain compared to dragging out my full-size machine or paying for alterations. The compact size (2.25"D x 9"W x 7.5"H) makes it super easy to store in my drawer.
Works great on lightweight fabrics like the package says. I love that it came with threads, bobbins, and needles to get started right away (just had to add batteries).
If you're looking for a simple solution for basic mending without the hassle of setting up a big sewing machine, this little gadget is definitely worth picking up. Not for heavy-duty projects, but perfect for those quick fixes that always seem to come up!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2021I bought this to help sew quilt pieces. Simple easy, straight lines 4-5 inches in length. No need to turn, just stitch and cut and move along. (My REAL sewing machine being packed up and impossible to set up in the camper we just recently moved into while building our forever home.). I thought this would make piecing the quilt quicker, as I was simply hand sewing it.
Problems:
No speed setting, it’s on or off…. And on is pretty fast. If you have a piece to sew in the correct place, when you move your hand to switch on the machine, it runs away with the material.
The on button is on the top instead of in a place where you could easily hold and switch on an off quickly.
Only holds bobbin size thread well. It will hold the other regular size spool, but that gets easily knocked off.
No way to set the tension as needed. The thread bunched up on the underneath side, which tells me the timing or tension was off. And there is no effective way to fix it. There is a tension knob, but no marks or indicators.
It doesn’t lift up the presser foot to insert cloth, you can manually raise and lower the needle to insert cloth abs with your hand, lift and pry up the foot a little, but it takes two hands and you would need a 3rd in order to insert the cloth.
Two layers of cloth MAX thickness sewing ability.
Over all just an unusable device
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2021So I bought this as a means to make simple caveman tunics for Halloween. This product is best suited for small fixes, not actual full-blown sewing. Within a few operations the mechanism that loops the stich below the footplate stopped functioning properly and without proper mechanical knowledge I had no idea how to fix to make the unit operational again. prior to that I noticed the unit seizing during stitching.
It is easy enough to operate and the instructions provided were sufficient. Love that they include a needle threader and it makes knotting stiches very easy and intuitive.
Fine product for fixes but don't even try to make something with this - it is just not durable enough.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2014I thought this might be a waste of money at first but it was really inexpensive so I decided to give it a try. I use it for custom fitting my plastic tarps I use to protect my outside machinery and my travel trailer. Yes, it is hard to fit the tarp under the needle and it is slow but It actually works great to snug up plastic tarps so they don't flap, blow off, or rip on those windy days, or shift and expose the machinery on rainy days. It's lightweight and maneuvers easily. Doesn't work on canvas tarps tho. I know it won't last for long because I'm using it on some pretty harsh jobs for something built for clothing or curtains but it's too handy and it's cheap to replace so I probably will get another one if this one fails. It's saved me a lot of money so far by not having to replace lost or damaged tarps. Basically I'm using it the same way an industrial hand-held bag stitcher works but I'm saving myself hundreds of dollars not getting one of those and they are heavy and hard to control. I think I'll just stick with my little Singer hand-held stitcher.
Update: I do have an issue with folded over fabric because it's too thick and the stitcher won't sew it but with hand pressure you can force it. Batteries don't last long and it could use a power adapter. If they only made this hand stitcher a little bigger and with a power cord it would have been much better. I'm still using the originally purchased stitcher after making 4 fitted plastic tarps for large tools I leave outside all year. That was a lot of work for a little hand stitcher. It was not easy but it was better than hand sewing the tarps. I think because of it's small size I will take one star away and just give it a 4 star review. I still like it.
