First, the size 7 US, is stamped by metric, correctly as 4.5mm. Of the five, there was a splinter on one needle, but it was an easy, routine fix. I scraped it smooth with a fingernail to remove the bit, and the bit of cotton it pulled from my yarn. I then buffed it a little with a bit of wax paper I warmed in my hand. I then knit across my stitches over the direction of the grain, not against it. After that, I didn't notice what had been a defect.
Second, these are simple and basic. It makes them great for knitting at the store, in the office, in your truck at the railway cross. The skill needed to use them would be at a minimum, an advanced beginner. Modern patterns use a rating of intermediate. For a child able to knit a scarf in garter stitch, these can be used. Skilled supervision will be needed for the child, but because learning to use double points requires skill building. If you trust the child to use a knife at the table, then double points are equally safe.
Third, the ease of holding these double points. They are lighter than metal. They are not cold in your hands. The ability to hold and manipulate while working stitches can be a skill, but, the material used affects how easy that is. It grips cotton well, so it's great for dish cloths if you struggle and loose stitches with metal.
Fourth, the needle tips. They are on the sharper end of pointy, but not to the extent of drawing blood in normal use. Stepping or sitting on them might be a problem. They are not the most blunt, which is nice, but they are not graded, so much as the 2.75mm do not have less of a tip than the 8mm. The 4.5mm is for reference. The length of the tip, and the sharpness remain proportionate among all sizes.
The dish cloth seen in the pictures above is at 27 stitches each side, and I have to scrunch them together at bit so they stay on. If I was going to make it any bigger, I would transfer the work to a circular needle at this point. It isn't uncomfortable to work, but I am now adjusting my hold to continue. That means the work is the desired size, because these knitting needles are 8".

Once I received the huge packet I realized that I now have duplicates of all of my middle size needles so I can make gloves/mitts/socks in pairs instead of one at a time. Particularly useful for a fiddly pattern with lots of color/pattern changes; no more making notes and marking off every row and hoping it all makes sense when you start the second piece in a week/month.
If you don't already have a stash of dp needles I'd recommend buying two of these sets so you can knit in pairs. I've been knitting for 60 years and most of my dpns from back in the day came in sets of 4, not 5.
Right now I have a pair of fingerless gloves in progress and each glove is happily resting on 4 needles with a 5th working needle just sitting there in the bag. There are no cryptic notes, no marked up print pattern, no recorded audio which will make no sense in 3 months, just a post-it with "gloves53 - start row 17" so I know EXACTLY which file it is on my USB stick and EXACTLY where to start. It's like plug and play for knitting!
These needles are nice and smooth and I am VERY pleased with them, especially for the very low price!
The only thing that I didn't like is that they are labeled by mm and not US standard sizes. The labeling also wore off pretty quickly so I had to size and label using a permanent marker. That wasn't hard but since I am reviewing I felt like this could be an improvement they could change. They do state the metric label in the directions.
Needles are marked in metric 15 sizes: 2mm(US0), 2.25mm(US1), 2.75mm(US2), 3.25mm(US3), 3.5mm(US4), 3.75mm(US5), 4mm(US6), 4.5mm(US7), 5mm(US8), 5.5mm(US9), 6mm(US10), 6.5mm(US10 1/2), 8mm(US11), 9mm(US13), 10mm(US15).
They come in a large plastic bag, where each set is then in it's own plastic bag.
Update March 2019 - still using these and glad I bought them, they have been useful
Update October 2020- These have been very useful for me. I have made 2 pair of socks and some hats using these. I broke some my O and 1 from being careless with them. For a beginner these are a great buy.
