About this item
- The Pentax K1000 35mm SLR is one of photography's greatest, most popular and longest-lived cameras.
- This Pentax film camera is completely mechanical and needs no battery to run, however, you must purchase an A76 cell battery to run the light meter.
- Unlike other SLR and DSLR cameras, the K1000 is simple and has little to no learning curve. There is three shooting controls: aperture, shutter speed and focus. You set the film speed when you load it.
- An extraordinary simple camera that forces you to think about your picture instead of your camera. As a result, it's recommended by most photography teachers, instructors, and professors to be used in their classes.
- The Pentax K1000 is so brilliant that you never need to turn the meter or camera on or off: both are always on for instant picture taking

Product Description
The K1000 is an almost-all metal, mechanically (springs, gears, levers) controlled, manual-focus SLR with manual-exposure control. It is completely operable without batteries. Batteries are only required (one A76 or S76, or LR44 or SR44) for the light metering information system. This consists of a centre-the-needle exposure control system using a galvanometer needle pointer moving between vertically arranged +/– over/underexposure markers at the right side of the viewfinder to indicate the readings of the built-in full-scene averaging, cadmium sulfide (CdS)battery light meter versus the actual camera settings. The meter does not have a true on/off switch and the lens cap must be attached to the lens to prevent draining the K1000's battery when it is not in use. The K1000 uses a horizontal travel, rubberized silk cloth focal plane shutter with a speed range of 1/1000 second to 1 second, along with Bulb and a flash X-sync of 1/60 second. It is 91.4 millimetres tall, 143 mm wide, and 48 mm deep, and weighs 620 grams. The body is finished in black leather with chrome trim only, although early production Pentax K1000 SE bodies have brown leather with chrome trim. In 1983, a K1000 with SMC Pentax-M 50 mm f/2 lens listed for $220.

My camera came in good condition, but there were some things that weren't working properly. The owner of the company leaves contact information in each of the boxes, so I thought I'd shoot my shot by reaching out before I just tried to return it via Amazon. It is important to remember that these are used cameras from the 70's, so they won't be perfect, but reach out to the company if you have any functional problems with your camera at all! I was very impressed that the owner of the company himself worked with me over a couple of weeks to try and get the camera repaired. He was super kind and understanding the whole time, and made sure that we went with the solution that was best for me. I am very happy with how everything worked out and would highly recommend this company for their price and services, as they will make sure that you are satisfied with your camera! It's a solid deal for a great SLR and with the guarantee of a positive customer experience.
I respect what this company is trying to do for its customers and the film community, and I hope to see future success for them as they grow!

- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2024Unfortunately my camera came broken, but the seller walked me through how to fix it. I ran into some difficulties with a stripped screw, and the seller let me send the camera back to them and then fixed it for me before returning it to me. I appreciated the customer service and am excited to start using my camera.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2025I returned the camera because it was defective, when you look through the viewfinder there was a big black mark so something within was scratched or broken, also it had a made in china tag on the bottom, the Pentax are made in Japan not china so it was a replica not an original Pentax
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2023The camera was a little late to arrive, but this was due to a holiday and the location I live in. It was packaged pretty well and looks like it’s in good condition with only a few scratches on the outside.
The camera didn’t come with a lens cover which is disappointing due to the fact that I’ll need a new battery for the camera and need to go find a proper cover. Everything else works fine though.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2025Currently waiting to hear back from Pentax customer support and will update review after.
Camera came as expected, looks nice, seems to operate but unable to actually get any photos on film. Using Kodak gold 200, shot indoors, outdoors, different ISO settings etc but unable to get anything that even resembles a photo on the 35mm. Yes the lens cap is off lmao. The mirror and shutter appear to work but still, no photos trying through 2 separate rolls of 35mm.
Read previous reviews and saw the seller is helpful so keeping hopes high before attempting to return.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great starter camera for a retro camera fan or a budding student in photography
I got this for a Junior College class and it is one of the best cameras I have ever owned. I had to have one and it seemed that the best brand I kept getting pointed to was the good-old Pentax K-1000. I searched the web for some but I could not find one that was in stock or that was any were as cheap. I was not going to do a Craig's List purchase my professor highly advised against it and I have never used that site. I was not comfortable to look at listings that I didn't know the buyer. I like how this was from a professional store and how they replaced a few things to make it work. I still have it as a reminder of a great class and like it for its unique vintage nature. I love the quality. By far one of the strongest cameras I have ever worked with. Easy to use and easy to begin your journey to using more SLR or DSLR cameras. All the parts are still clicking and I had no quarrel with any of the functions. I love the shutter sounds too nothing makes me as happy as the sound of the shutter every time you take a shot. I love how the gears and sprockets and mechanical parts worked. There were a few things missing but that is to be taken in to consideration when buy an vintage model. Things get lost with the tests of time but as long as the body still works you will have a good camera for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for being older than a 90s millenial
I got this camera from onlyPOLAROID. The camera came in good condition. I've included a few photos one taken with the camera, on Kodak Gold 200, indoors. The camera itself came with a bag, lens cap, a strap for the bag and camera. Both the bag and the straps are very basic. But this is my first real camera. And appreciate the buffer i got from those two addons.
The mirror had a few scratches, and the lens bottom left had what looked like a wiped off finger print. With the scratches being visible in the view finder. But i got the first roll back, and doesn't seem to have any issues with the actual picture. So i am ok with the mirror as it is right now.
The light meter seems to work. And there are no light leaks, which is a positive with these old cameras.
Looking at the camera, it seems like a hong kong model.
It came with a 50mm f/2.0 lens but when i got it. Turned out to be a f/1.78 lens. Which is a plus so i am not complaining.
For a camera that is older than i am. Very good condition. I would recommend onlyPOLAROID. But not sure if a poloaroid store can be a good source of pentax k1000s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light metering not working, reflex lens dirty.
I purchased this refurbished camera from Sendean Cameras. I placed 2X new LR44 batteries into the camera and the light metering system wasn't working. Also when i was in focus i noticed faint black dots and lines, the reflex mirror is dirty or possibly scratched, as the dots and lines are still visible after i cleaned the lens. I took the camera down to Sendean Cameras for repair because this product came with a 6 month warranty. they quickly fixed the problem that same day and the camera is now working fine, the service there was friendly and informative. they said the malfunction in the camera was maybe caused during delivery because they had checked the camera and it was working fine before it was dispatched.

1.0 out of 5 stars Blue Penn might be a scam
Got my camera and there was a rattling noise coming from inside of it. Missing the film rewind lever and the button to pop open the back of the camera to load film didn't work. Had to pry it open and discovered the rattling noise was the film rewind shaft which had slipped through the opening due to missing rewind lever. Learned that the camera doesn't even work when I got an entire film reel developed a month later with nothing on it. Been in contact with these guys for a month and am still waiting for a refund or an item exchange.
Beware buyer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Going Analog Rocks!
I wanted for ages to go the film camera rout and I had seen a lot of great comments about this camera. "Great for students" was one of them which I am in terms of this analog photography. If you didn't already know its fully manual and has a cable release socket. Their ain't that many features which is exactly what makes it so great. With no fancy features you can really focus on the photography and you creative vision. I wish I could talk more about the camera but I know how it works and how to work and that's good enough for me.
