Avoid wasting water when it rains with the handy rain delay to pause the watering schedule for up to 7 days, the schedule will resume when the delay is over. Need to wash the car or spray off the walkway? Manual mode allows you to turn on the water whenever you need it. Ensure you always have a leak-free seal with additional filter washers. I have had four of these over the years. Two older versions, two of this version. Valves don’t open or close consistently. i have messed with them multiple times by removing the batteries and resetting them, and manually opening and closing the valves. When I leave them to auto mode, I come home to find my already very dry lawn did not get any water yet again because the valves fail to open! I’m tired of messing with these money wasting pieces of junk.
I am now building an in ground system with unground valves to use above ground. For as much as I have spent on these type of timers over the years. I could have build a couple in ground valve systems and just used them above ground! 🙄
With regard to the rain sensor, the instructions are not very clear and the description is lacking:
1. The rain sensor *only* operates to turn zone 1 on and off (this was not clear from online description). I wanted a rain sensor to turn off all zones if it rained; that is not an option.
2. The rain sensor icon in the display flashes if it is detecting enough moisture to turn off zone 1. It is solid if the soil is dry and zone 1 will turn on according to schedule. The icon is absent when the rain sensor is disconnected. No where in either User instructions does it mention anything about the rain sensor icon on the 4-zone water timer.
I gave it 5 stars because the unit operates the 4 zones well. Also the valves open up fully, without any flow restrictions. I base that on the fact that when I replaced some manual switches with this unit, our watering devices shot water farther and we had to adjust their placement for the increased water flow.
I did not find a 7 zone product, so I purchased 2 Melnor 4-zone water timers instead. The first timer I set zone 1-3 to run for a half hour at 5:00, 5:30, and 6:00 accordingly, and the 4th zone to run 3 hours between 6:30 and 9:30. I then attached the second Melnor water timer to zone 4 of the first timer. I then set each zone on the second timer to run every half hour at 7:00, 7:30, 8:00, and 8:30. I allowed an extra half hour on each side of the second timer to allow for time differences between the timers. Not all sprinklers needed to run for the same time. Some only needed to run for 10 minutes, while others needed to run for 25 minutes. I could easily adjust each zone to run for a different time. The timer was set to run both morning and evening. I only need 2 cycles programmed, but the timer allows for 4 cycles. Each zone can have a custom time to be turned on, and each zone and cycle and be programmed for different run times. Very powerful and somewhat easy to program.
I set everything up and was pleased with the results. The first couple of days I adjusted the watering timers for each zone. If the area was mud, I would decrease the run time, if the area seemed dry I would increase it. After a couple of adjustments I did not need to mess with the timers any more. It has been a couple of weeks and the new grass is coming in very nicely.
The programming issues... I thought it had broke the next day as it was showing the watering symbol, but no water was coming out. I was getting ready to return it, but decided to research the issue first. Turns out the timers get easily confused when you mess with them when running. If you try to run manual cycles when they are programmed to be on, when turn them off rainy days and then turn them on during a cycle, they do weird things. Basically they can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Only turn them off when they are not running, only use manual mode when they are not scheduled to run and things go much better. If think things are not working the best thing to do is leave everything alone and see if the problem exists next schedule. The random issues are frustrating, but I am happy with my purchase and my new grass is growing nicely.

El montaje es muy sencillo, ya sea que realices una instalación profesional o algo muy básico, la interfaz es fácil de aprender y la funcionabilidad hasta ahora (llevo al menos 3 meses con el) ha Sido impecable
Super recomendado !
1. Compact - Melnor 4 zone is a tad smaller than Orbit 3 zone.
2. Hardware - The look and feel of Melnor is better than Orbit. Also the internal mechanism on Menor is quieter than that of Orbit.
3. Zones - Melnor has 4 zones whereas Orbit has 3 zones.
4. Scheduling - Orbit allows scheduling from every 6 hrs to once every 7 days (or once a week) for each zone. Melnor allows you to either select the schedule same as Orbit, or select days of the week when you want the sprinklers/irrigation on each zone to run.
5. Scheduling Plus - One big winner for Melnor is that within each zone, not only can you select the days it should run, but also set 4 different cycles and durations within each zone for the days you selected.
6. Maximum Rain delay duration - Orbit goes up to 72 hours only. Melnor goes upto 7 days.
7. Finally the Price - Melnor 4 zone timer, in spite of packing in all the above extras is cheaper than Orbit 3 zone timer (or at least it was cheaper when I had ordered them).
To sum it up, even if you need just 3 zone timer, I would suggest to go for Melnor and have that extra zone just in case you add something in the future, since there is no other reason you would want to buy the Orbit.

The timer is easy to set up and I did not need instructions to set up a daily watering schedule. You set the time when you put the batteries in. Each zone will say off, but you add time to get the start time and then how many minutes you want to water in that zone. You can repeat this for each zone. There are other things you might be able to do, but this was all I needed.
You might need to consider the position of the timer on the faucet and whether there is enough space underneath to attach your hoses. I had to dig a small hole under the timer to give myself more room, but if you have concrete underneath, you may need to add an angled connector to your faucet that gives you more room. If you need to run some extra water through one of the hoses for extra watering, you can turn manual on and set the number of minutes.
