Magzo vs Sentry
5 Stars
Magzo vs Sentry
I needed two screens and, based on the reviews, could not decide between the Sentry and the Magzo, so I bought one of each. I have just finished installing them and so can’t give a durability assessment, but i do have some purchase and installation suggestions, as well as some comparisons.PRODUCt COMPARISONI bought what was advertsed as the 36” x 80” in each brand, but they are not the same size. Out of the box the two screens look like they could have been made in the same factory, and perhaps they were, but to different specications. The screen material serms identical, as do the magbets along the closure. However, the exterior dimensions of the Sentry are 79” x 37” while the Magzo is actually 36” x 80” as advertised. The only other difference i noticed between them was that the Sentry had a couple of weights on the bottom edge, which presumably makes it less likely to be affected by wind. The tacks included are even the same, although the Sentry ones come in a nice little plastic box while the Magzo is in cardboard. In general the Sentry people put more effort into the packaging than Magzo.INTALLATION The two brands give different installation instructions. Sentry advises putting the velcro tape on the door framre and then attaching the screen to it. Magzo recommends putting the tape on the screen and then peeling off the backing to expose the sticky part as you install it. I used the Magzo method because it looked easier to install with one person. In retrospect I would advise use the Magzo approach for another reason, at least in an installation where the screen is not going to have excess material inthe width. If you are going to have a screen that does not have excess width, you need to be able to see as you stick the tape on how taught the screen is. In my case I changed where i put the tape to make the screen flat. If i had installed the tape first I would have put it in a different position and there would have been a couple of eaxtra inches of material in the width.PURCHSE CONSiDERATIONS First of all, i would suggest buying a screen like these two, which have a lot of magnets on the closure and vervro all the way around. A few months ago I bought from a “local” merchant — OSH — on the theory that Amazon is taking over the world, destroying local businesses, etc. The screens from OSH were very easy to intall as the screen hung from a spring tension rod and had only a few velcro tabs to stick to the sides, and a lerge magnet holding an overlapping enclosure. The big magnet was so strong it made the screen hard to open, the rod kept falling down, and the w velcro tabs pulled away from the sides. I gave them away on Nextdoor. Second, some screens talk about being adjustable for different door sizes, but i’m not sure how that would work. Maybe you could cut the velcro strip off the sides or top and then glue it back onto the screen, but that would, at a minimum, increase your installation effort significantly. I would suggest trying to buy a screen that can be installed without such alterations. There are a lot of different screensizes abailable, so getting one that fits is best. That raises the question of what size to get for yor door. My doors were 80” x 34” and 79” x 33 inches where i wanted to install them. The sill sloped down, so the doors were nominally the same height, but i planned to install one higher on the sill than the other. So there are two things to keep in mind. The first is where you are planning to stick the velcro and the second is the size of the screen. There is a 1” boarder around the top and sides of the screen. The Sentry screen will cover, then, a 35” door opening and the Magzo a opening of 34”, with the screens flat. If the door height is 80”, neither screen is going to touch the bottom of the door, because of the velcro strip across the top. I had planned to install the screens so that the velcro strips would have been facing each other with the screen at right angles to the strips. This does not allow the width to be adjusted except by cutting the screen. I ended up attaching the velcro to the outside of the from, which let me adjust the width so the screen was flat. Unless you want to cut the screen or it fits perfectly attaching the velcro to the inside of the frame, I would recommend planning to install it on the outside, so that the screen and the velcro are in the same plane. One last point. The pins that come with these doors only work in a wooden from. My frame is metal, so I bought some 3/4” pan head black sheet metal screws to secure the top and sides. I only put them on one of the doors— im going to see how the velcro holds up on the other one for now. If you do this, br careful the screen does get wrapped up in your drill bit and be sure to drill a hole nearly as big as the screw, as metal is much less forgiving than wood. I didn’t get washers, but I would recommend using them, as the holes in the screen borders may end up being bigger than the screw head.

5.0 out of 5 stars incredible!
Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2021
What an amazing product - compared to what I've seen in the past - I'd give it 6 stars if I could, not only because it works great but because my dogs love it!! :-) My friend has a great backyard that my dogs love to play in when we come for extended visits - but he wasn't too happy about the flies coming in his house when I left the door open for them - and, like some dogs, they would want to come in, then go back out, 'all day long'. :-) So I bought him this 'screen door'. The quality is excellent - does not feel too thin or easily torn and it looks really nice. Install was straight forward if you follow the instructions. It took under an hour to install - especially when you have 'two' bosses on the job. :-) I was very impressed with how well the magnets work on this screen - sometimes it takes a moment or two to connect but it always connects, nice and snugly. We did find that although we had to order the longer length than the actual door size, we felt we could do as others suggested and install it a bit higher if it was too long. But such was not the case - which I thought was odd. It fit perfectly top to bottom - although, on occasion, there is a small gap at the bottom (see photo) - in other words, it's probably best to order longer if available for your door size. That did not seem to be an issue, however - as no flies tried to get in from the bottom and most of the time there was no gap. The other problem to consider, in my friend's application, is his door is metal. That means you have to consciously flip the door screen behind you when entering otherwise sometimes it will 'attach' to the door instead of itself if you have a metal door. I was also concerned it may look tacky leaving it up all year long - but it actually looks quite nice and will be great for him when he wants to just leave the door open for natural breezes. But the best part about this screen is it is dog-friendly! My two great danes are very boundary conscious - they will never try to jump a small gate or even a low decorative edging around a flower bed. I feared they would see this screen as a barrier and would not even try to go through it. If you put a small chair in front of something - even if there is a gap to go around, they won't. I knew I would have to train them to accept this screen - and that I did need to do. It took about 20 minutes for success: letting them see me walk in and out several times, then luring them with just my hand through the opening, with a treat - trying to entice their noses through; then a little more - more treats for each small step forward - until they did it on their own. Once they overcame their 'fears' they were so proud of themselves and used it regularly like it wasn't even there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps Out Flying Bugs and Easy Entry/Exit
Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2020
Functional & More Durable. My own personal thoughts & an Unpaid review. This MAGZO magnetic screen door is a much improved design from others I have tried! We really enjoy it! It keeps the bugs out and is self-closing when installed properly. (For installation tips, see the mfg. instructions and read/or further below in my review). The screen is durable--much better quality than other flimsy ones I have tried. I like it because the mosquitos are really bad around these regions and I have a toddler to protect. It would also be great for people with pets.

What made this product even better:
1) Be sure to buy the correct size. It seems obvious, but I had to buy different sizes because of variances in my doors. It is a good idea to dry fit the magnetic screen door BEFORE you install it. Please note: this vendor willingly exchanged mine when the fit was not correct. 😊
2) Lay out the screen door on a flat surface or floor. I did mine about a day or so to remove the wrinkles naturally and to make installation easier.
3) Wipe the door facing with a cloth to remove pollen and dust; so, that the adhesive will stick properly. If you use a wet cloth, please let the facing dry thoroughly or the adhesive will not stick properly. Also, it is helpful to choose a dry day versus a rainy/wet day.
3) Apply the Velcro to the screen door as it is flat on the floor. I used three pieces: one across the top and then, one piece on both sides. I mashed the Velcro onto the screen door--firmly--before the install. IMPORTANT: Do Not remove the Velcro backing paper until you are ready to install or in the process of installing it.
4) One installation tip that makes this product self closing, is to install the top of it Slightly Higher than the outer corners of the screen door. It really makes the difference. I learned the hard way with my 1st experience. Think of it as installing only the very center of the top of the screen Before the rest of the top edge. Raise that section about 1/4" higher than the top of the door facing opening. Then, angle the rest of the top of the screen, slightly down until the corner of the door facing opening. Check how the screen
hangs and evenness. If it's correct, firmly press the center Velcro down and remove the rest of the Velcro paper on the top edge only.
5) Now, I know it repetitious, but recheck the door fit. Is there enough material to reach the sides and completely cover the door opening? IF it does and if it closes properly by itself: completely closes in the middle with no gaps or wrinkles, proceed with finishing the install. IF it does not, make adjustments until it is correct and then, proceed to finishing the install.
6) The last steps are both the same; they are for the sides. Slowly remove the velcro paper as you follow down one side of the screen door edge and Lightly adhere it to the door facing. IMPORTANT: Do Not press it firmly until all installation is complete and adjustments are made. Repeat with the opposite side of the screen door edge--only pressing lightly.
7) Now, recheck the door fit. Is there a enough material to reach the sides and completely cover the door opening? IF it does and if it closes properly by itself: completely closes in the middle with no gaps or wrinkles, proceed with finishing the install. IF it does not, make adjustments until it is correct and then, proceed to finishing the install.
8) Finish by firmly pressing on all Velcro edges and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Adhesive sticks well
Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2024
This was fairly easy to install, given that one of us had to be inside a van and the other outside, on a ladder. It definitely took both of us.

On your patio, you should be able to do this with only two hands.

I used a couple of the thumbtacks at the top, but I'm not sure it was necessary. They have a black head and are hardly noticeable.

The screen closes well. In my case, the screen is too long, or the door too short. Not the fault of the screen.

We're happy with it.
