Product Description

Designed for residential use, Chapin’s 81008A 80-pound residential salt/ice melt spreader has a weather-resistant poly hopper to fill with your preferred ice melt, halite or small particulates. Supported on a powder-coated steel frame with the ergonomically designed bail system and U-shaped flip up handle, it’s simple to operate and holds up season-after-season. The baffles adjust for edge control and the pneumatic tires handle uneven ground. This unit is not recommended for rock salt, sand or sand mixes. A spiked auger helps tear up clumps and keeps the ice melt moving freely. Made in the USA with global materials and backed by Chapin’s 2-year limited warranty.

Stay far far away from the product. If I would have just bought it during the snow it would have went right back. The handle mechanism that controls the release of salt is cheaply made. This product is only good for very refined salt like table salt. If I only knew that this was the trash that purchased.

    Versatile construction and easy to assemble if you have a decent eye for assembling things. The directions are as good as asking a dog for the best way to clean your shoes. You get absolutely nothing out of them.

    Other then that, the real rubber tires are great for getting through snow without the wheels gliding. Hold plenty of salt for sidewalks and paths and is easy enough to push when full.

    All around a solid product with the price. You can obviously get much better but you will pay accordingly, this I see as a healthy compromise

    For the past couple of years I used my Scotts fertilizer spreader for ice melt and after awhile it rusted out. Purchased this item as it was made for ice melt. Assembly was easy, had it together in less than 30 minutes. The first time I used it, it was amazing. Loved that it came with a cover to protect the ice melt in the bin while spreading.

    I did not use all the spread the first time and left the remaining ice melt in the bin covered. When I went to use it again, I filled up the bin, covered it and headed out. I noticed that no ice meat was coming out. I had to empty the bin of all the ice melt and noticed that the ice melt I left in the bid had hardened and clogged the openings. Once I cleared the openings it worked fine. So now I just monitor the ice melt and make sure there is nothing left when done. Before filling I check the openings and make sure they open and close with ease.

    Would I purchase again. Yes for $149 it was worth it. For the listed price of $221, not so sure.
