I purchased these walkie-talkies for camping. I was hoping they'd be useful for a longer range, but they seem to be fine for shorter distances. They are nice and small, fits great in my hands. Great value for the small price. The quality of sound is amazing for the size.

Weird channels assignment, all channels locked
Great little radios in terms of value/price and size. I have much more capable and thus heavier/bulky radios that I often hesitant to take with me to hiking/fishing/etc activities. RT22 is compact, lightweight and capable enough for this purpose. The biggest downside for which I took off a few stars is the fact that frequencies assigned to RT22 16 channels are out of FRS channels order and all channels are locked either with CTCSS or DCS (see the screenshot). FRS channels are programmed in following order: 1-5,18, 22, 6, 7, 15-22. Lower 10 channels are closed by CTCSS tones, 6 upper channels locked by DCS codes. This means that if you want to use your RT22 with other person who has a radio with open channels - that person would be able to hear you, but you won't be able to hear them, unless their radio configured to transmit the same CTCSS or DCS code. Since user can't turn off CTCSS/DCS without programming cable and a laptop/computer (i.e. it can't be fixed in a field) - these radios can't be used in a group with other people using radios from another manufacturer. This is not a big deal for someone who already have programming cable and knows how to use CHIRP app. Discovering that "my radio doesn't work with Midland/Kenwood/Yayesu/Baofeng/..." can be very frustrating to the rest of users. Even if other people in the group are willing to program their radios to match the RT22 tones/codes - there is absolutely no information about frequencies/tones/codes available for RT22 in the manual. So in order to get this info user must have programming cable and must use it to get this info from the radio itself. P.S. I decided to reprogram the channels into more intuitive FRS channels order (excluding 0.5 Wt power channels 8-14) and leave all but 1 channels open: FRS 1-7, 15-22, 22+DCS. I decided to keep 22nd channel closed for not being waken up at night by someone outside of a group while camping.

My family and I bought these especially for cruising. After looking at reviews of more expensive talkies, and finding out on a ship they all pretty much work the same, we settled on these for the price and reliability (as was advertised). So here are my pros and cons.
PROS: 2nd floor to 9th floor of the cruise we heard each other really well.
No static or reverb or stray signals.
Small and very lightweight and very easy to use. My 6yr old had one.
Charges in no time, comes with charger, our standby time lasted all day, never lost power and we used them often.
CONS: doesn’t transmit clear when you’re in the stateroom to another floor, so step into the passageway and you’ll be good.
Overall I would recommend this product because I love it myself and I gave it a true experience.
