A must have recovery tool for every athlete!
I have been an ultra-distance runner for about a decade now, racing anywhere from 25K to 100 miles 3-6 times a year. While I wouldn’t consider myself elite, I do have a few podium finishes, train hard, and always look to give it my all. As you can imagine, my body tends to take a beating from all of the mileage. When not running, I have a desk job, so it is really easy to let myself become sedentary; I have to be really good about using my downtime effectively to take care of my body. In the competitive recovery tools market, what attracted me to look at RAD was their breadth of tools and what appeared to be a very knowledgeable and scientific approach to their design. The Rod has become one of my favorite tools from RAD. I love having a portable roller tool that I can take with me in my car for after a run or on the road when I travel for work. The tool itself is simplistic, but very effective and versatile. While most portable “stick” tools bend and flex, the Rod has solid steel construction, ensuring its rigidity. I love this because it allows me to really get deep into the muscle and work on the tough spots. Personally, I use it mostly on legs, particularly on the larger muscles groups such as my calves and quads. The one complaint I have is the length. It is about 21”, but I would love to see it at maybe 24”. As it is, the Rod is a bit difficult (though not impossible) to use on my upper shoulder and neck area because of the length. A couple extra inches in length would help with that. Pro’s • Rigid and durable design means you can work the toughest of spots in your muscles. It also means this may be the only one you will ever have to buy as it won’t break • Works together with the rest of the Rad tool ecosystem, increasing its value and versatility • Its portability means you can bring it with you Con’s • Could be a couple inches longer A few extra bonuses with RAD are that they build many of their tools, especially the Rod, to complement and work with each other. The Rod can be used with both the Helix and Axle to unlock more ways to use those tools. What seems to be an overlooked part of the RAD tool kit is their mobile app; for me it has been extremely helpful. There are so many different ways to use the tools. The mobile app gives you a digital guide to these methods, allowing you to search for exercises based on what part of the body you want to focus on. It is like having a physical therapist on your phone, which allows you to get the most out of the tools. Whether you are new to muscle recovery or a veteran, I think the RAD tools are a great choice. Together, they give you a great set for all of your needs and with the mobile app or included written instructions with each tool, you are not left to figure it out on your own. And if you are looking for a place to start, the Rod is one of the better tools to pick first, especially if you are a runner!

It rolls smooth (nice bearings), materials quality is nice, it doesn't bend or even flex.
Initially bought another product (Tiger Tail, which is pretty good too and very popular on a Canadian Amazon, but this one is damn perfect).
