1.) My use = Live switching / streaming / recording. Mostly I'll use this primarily not for live streaming but for recording live multicam switching with a ATEM Mini pro using the highest hyperdeck setting to record the same quality as the cards in our cameras - mine is set for 70mbps recording. This Saves me hours and hours in post doing multicam editing on these long events! My clients are accustomed to multicam videos and expect it!
2.) History = I have been using HDMI wires long as 100' with amplifiers and they work great. Problem I run into is where my switching cart must be placed in relation to the cameras with hardwire connections this is limiting! We are mobile and setup at different places, typical video company. I have seen HDMI as long as 300' using fiber HDMI but sounds to be delicate and for mobile repeated use - can you rely on that? Ah nope! The other issue is having to run cables in theaters with tons of gaffer tape and just spending way too much time doing that. Time is money! When the shows are over the theaters are ready for you to get out and striking up cables that are gaffered oh brother – time consuming and a pain… We don’t go in to these places with more than 4 people and half are not very technical. So, this is another place where wireless will save us time and money.
3.) My solution was - try the Mars 300 pro video transmission system (Due to the low price) to see if we can remove the need for wires and give me better placement options and save time and money. Preferably I want the cart to be back stage.
4.) During my quick test I found them to be awesome! Quality loss is so minimal. In my comparison between hard wire and wireless was in the dark areas - it was a slightly (hardly noticeable) noisy on wireless and only where it was complete blackness / darkness which I feel in post I can apply a quick color grade to resolve. The general viewer will not even notice! Bright areas that are well lit are 99.9 to 100% the same. Audio quality was very good I cannot notice a difference at all there to me.
5.) Delay? = Hardwire to wireless side by side my naked eye watching the Multiview ATEM screen one on the preview screen and the other on program no noticeable lag. If there is I can’t see it being more than a few frames off with the naked eye.
6.) Placement = Using this in theaters my idea is to run the receivers in the theater or performing arts room to gain line of sight to cameras if I need the switching cart back stage I'll then run HDMI hard wires from the receivers to the switching cart that's backstage – very short runs!
I did find some hiccups going through walls with great distances this may be an issue especially at theaters and performing arts centers where you have Fireproofed brick and or reinforced rebar concrete walls. My plan for this setup - setup the receivers to the side of the stage down front in an inconspicuous / unnoticeable way so that the three cameras will have a direct line of sight or close enough. Then hardwire HDMI cables from the receivers and run back stage to the switcher, no more than 30 feet. Even if doing that hardwire that will still be a time saver on long cable runs and allows for cameras and switcher to be further apart.
7.) Easy to use! Easy to setup and figure out. Nothing more to say about that.
Technically with these and cameras operating on battery you can make each camera 100% wireless and save so much time setting up! Then if you need to move a camera for any reason, bad angle in the way etc. You can pick up and move and not have to worry about being tether down! That in itself - worth it! I’m impressed for the price what I am able to get!
1) lower latency - upgrading from the 300 to the 300 Pro, you’ll get .08 seconds instead of .1 seconds. This is a noticeable improvement and helps when pulling focus.
2) Integrated OLED screens on the side for browsing status, battery level, and channel. Much better than the older model that only had an LED light.
3) Lightweight. It’s literally half the size of my Teradek. I’m more likely to use this on a smaller camera setup and really like the integrated antennas on the receiver.
4) Ability to transmit to receiver AND up to 2 mobile devices simultaneously - this is probably my favorite new feature which gives you the ability to use their HOLLYLAND app and send a signal to other mobile devices on set like iOS and android devices. We’ve been sending a separate signal to our producer’s phone and they like being able to see camera in real time without going over to set with all the Covid and social distancing we have going on these days on set.
5) USB-C - instead of the older DC power adapter you can power the receiver and transmitter with USB-C now. And you can also update the units through the USB ports. Not something that’s a huge deal but still nice to see it’s more compatible with modern devices.
Overall if you’re in the market for a wireless transmitter system the Hollyland Mars Pro 300 is a great option and for 469 dineros there aren’t too many other competitors that are on the same price range with similar features.
The cons-
my only main con with the unit is the latency time. It’s a bit of a delay, a little too much where you can’t pull focus with it on a professional set, i would not rely on it as a 1st AC. However, it is good enough as a reference monitor! Beats anything in its price range. Would recommend!

The size/weight plus the USB-C powering option is a huge plus for gimbal setup, as you could power the video transmitter using with the same battery powering your gimbal.
I can monitor my shots using my phone via the Hollyview App[Focus peaking, Zebra etc], while also sending the video signal to the capture/streaming/switching device.
The HDMI loop out is absolute neccesary if you need to monitor your shots on an external screen while transmitting the video signal elsewhere.
When you do need to power these with the Sony NP-F970 batteries, the 7900mAh version with last you well over 6 hours.
Note that while using multiple units at once, you do have to keep the units 2 channels apart and keep the receivers away from each other and off the ground...to avoid/reduce interference.
Comes with usb-c cable, cold shoe mount, a bracket that allows you for an alternative mount option, 3 antennas...you need 2 for the transimtter, 1 is a spare piece.
Overall a good investment for my workflow.
