      This is my first bow. I wanted it for sound design purposes, bowing metal rods etc.
      Someone who has more traditional needs for stringed instruments may have a different perspective, but for my needs, for ~$30, it seems to be good value. Beginners would likely also find this to be a good starter bow.

      The only negative is that it was packaged poorly. It was in a plastic sleeve, and tossed in a cardboard box with nothing to stop it bouncing around. Thankfully it arrived in one piece somehow.

      Reminds me of the first couple of bows I had as an adult beginner: heavy, with a hard piece of "leather" that, in this case, looks like it was painted in red enamel. Frankly, this bow is no better quality than cheaper student bows you can buy online.

      Experienced players know this but, for those who don't, starting out with a heavy bow can be advantageous to get your basic coordination and tone together. But I would encourage players, regardless of style, to experiment with a lighter bow as soon as your basic technique allows it. You'll find not only more control - even if you're a fiddler who doesn't use a lot of off-the-string bowing or subtle accenting - but you'll enjoy more flexibility in your sound and gain an deeper understanding of the effects of speed versus pressure versus sounding point. In short, a lighter bow will open the door to expressive playing, give it a try.

      I was looking for a replacement violin bow, and came across this one which ticked all the boxes: wood made, with natural hair, full-size and new. I tried it after a wrist operation and although it first seemed longer and heavier than the one I had, in the end it turned out to be an excellent choice. I am not a professional player so this might not be everyone’s favourite but it is a good bow in the hands of an advanced yet occasional player.
