It does what is says but with heavy caveats
I've labored over what to write because I'm glad I bought this product but I'm also very disappointed with the quality for the price as you've seen from other reviewers. It's a great idea and even in it's current state it's a helpful tool but I think you should know a few things going in. You'll see a lot on people medical professionals not recommending this and FDA stuff yada yada yada, which was echoed by our nurses (they did not recommend it) but this centers around two things (keep in mind this is my own research so do your own on these).1 FDA - It seems this is basically that the FDA considered this a medical device which requires certain tests and verifications and what most things seems to come down to which is money. Owlette didn't want to pay fees for the testing required so they changed the product to not require FDA certification or whatever it is called.2 Medical professionals don't recommend - All our nurses advised against the product but for the same reason, false positives. Our son had to spend two weeks in a special care nursery where his pulse and O2 were measured by the medical version of this product which costs thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars. That device did the same thing this sock does which is give you ample amounts of false positives. That machine and this sock are very prone to being knocked off by the kicking of a baby, particular an awake and hungry baby in our case. With that said below is my fool pros and cons list:Pros:1. it gives us great peace of mind - you're likely looking at this for the same reason we bought it, which is nightmare stories of SIDS. Despite it's many issues I'm confident it's reading our child's vitals within a margin of error to alert us if they dip too low.2. It is relatively easy to use - You need the app for more info on what's happening but you can also use stand alone the sock and base. This is helpful for traveling if you don't have wifi. There are three alerts Green (normal readings) Yellow (Trouble getting reading) Violet (Baby needs assistance). Technically there's also flashing green (obtaining signal) and white (the sock is charging)3. Doesn't seem to bother the child - Despite him kicking it off as babies are wont to do he seems indifferent to it being on or off which I read as it being reasonably comfortable. He also has sensitive skin which this doesn't seem to irritate.Cons1. False Positives - the nurses were right and this gets kicked off all the time. It's not as often as they said but it's frequent enough to be a con. Think 4-5 times a week. Again, I think it's just the nature of something for babies like this. If sleep is your top priority though you will want to research other solutions as this is going to affect it.2. The app is bad - We also bought the cam which this allows you to combo into one screen which is nice but it has many issues. Despite repositioning as a "sleep quality" monitor the app doesn't really allow you to do anything with that. Also it's clunky to install/setup and there are multiple versions of the app and products to add to confusion. It also lags sometimes and it doesn't indicate it's not live. I think they tried to simplify things but missed the target. I haven't had wifi issues others had despite a basic one router set up that is on a different floor but it does say connection is just fair.3. Lack of features - Similar to above I think they over simplified too much. The base needs to shut off the sock but it requires a memorized clicking/plugging in sequence instead of just a button or switch. Once the child is old enough to be sleep trained it'd also be great to lengthen the snooze feature but that's not an option. you also can't adjust the volume of the alarms or what the noise they make. This might be picky but again this is a $300 product which feels like it should pack a lot more than it does.Overall - I'd say there's just two camps on this. Do you want to know for sure your baby is still breathing? this will do that. Do you want a top tier product that will maximize your peace of mind with sleep and functions? This falls woefully short and leaves me scratching my head at some decisions.I'm still glad I bought this in hopes it spurs more products that have the same goal but function better. I also think it fits our needs but there is significant room to improve in almost ever facet.

I am a high anxiety mom. This gives me some peace of mind! I still check on my baby regularly (okay a lot), but this allows me to get some sleep knowing that he is being monitored!

We bought this and the Nannit to try. I like the owlet better than Nannit because the sock can be used throughout the house whereas with the Nannit baby needs to be under the camera for it to work. You do not need to have the owlet camera for the sock to work, though I do recommend it!

I also like that this tells baby’s heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and quality of sleep (light, deep, awake). The Nannit only counts baby’s breaths per min.

It’s fairly easy to use and get set up! Sometimes it disconnects from our WiFi, but not often and that is probably more an issue with our WiFi. I would love for it to have a back up mode though if wifi goes out! The sock is soft and easy to put on. Multiple sizes come with it, look on the inside of the sock for sizing and left/right foot. I will say though that when we initially tried it our baby was 5.5 pounds, and it did not fit well. It alerted us that it was having trouble getting readings. After our baby put on a little weight it worked great!

This sock has been the main reason why I've been able to get any sleep since bringing my baby home 4 months ago. Today it was the reason why I caught a BRUE incident where my baby stopped breathing and was unresponsive. It was one of the worst experiences of my life, but am so incredibly thankful for having bought this sock and that she's been wearing it every night or I might not have been able to catch this and help her this morning.

CONS: Alarm goes off for false readings at times, when the battery is low if you didn't get it in the charger early enough for bed, will go off if you place it too close to another electronic device (like your monitor), or when your baby is moving too much. At 4 months old now, mine has figured out that if she just does leg lifts in the morning she gets a quick little dance party with the alarm going off and light flashing, she'll cheer as the alarm goes off, then excitedly looks at my bedroom door cause she knows I'm about to run out to make sure she's okay.

PROS: Has allowed me to get rest and have some kind of reassurance that my baby is safe since she was born. Instructions say it's 1 month+, but we started using it early cause PPA and PPD made it hard for me to sleep. Caught BRUE incident today and allowed us to seek medical care asap to make sure she's okay.

I know what I'm buying for my sister that's trying for her first for her baby shower. I will forever be grateful of this device!

We love having the Owlet sock—we also have the Owlet baby monitor and they work well together to help us see and track our baby during nap times and sleep through the night. The sock gives us peace of mind for her key vitals and helps us track her sleeping patterns too, which we’ve even been able to share with her pediatrician for extra support when needed. The peace of mind this gives a first time mom makes it worth every penny!

      tl;dr
The device provides peace of mind when it works, but seems to be built to only last a year as we've had two of them that stopped working between 11-12 months which is also the limit on their warranty. We just can't afford to buy a $300 device for every kid so we won't be buying another one.

      PROS:
      - Helpful data that gives peace of mind that your baby is okay
      - Vitals can give you early signs that your baby is getting sick or recovering from sickness

      CONS:
      - Only last 11-12 months (we've had this happen with two socks)
      - Strict warranty, if you contact them about an issue after 12 months of purchasing they will not help you
      - App has some bugs and navigating the app can be confusing

We purchased the original Smart Sock from Owlet for our first child. The sock and the app worked great, providing helpful vitals data that gave us peace of mind. When the company got into hot water with the FDA over their original Smart Sock, our sock which had worked perfectly for almost a year suddenly stopped working. It would no longer connect to the Owlet Care app. When we contacted support they said that our sock was outside the 12 month warranty (Though it stopped working before that. Buyer beware, if you have any issues at all with this sock before 12 months, contact the company immediately or they will not work with you).

We hoped that this was a fluke with their original device and the trouble they got into with the FDA over portraying it as a medical device. So with our second child we decided to try it again and bought their new Dream Sock. The device itself worked just as well as the first one. They also had a new app that was more confusing and less helpful, but overall the system still provided peace of mind.

When our second child was around 11 months the system started having trouble. It would constantly give us Yellow warnings but when we would check on our baby everything was fine. We tried adjusting the sock placement, resetting it with the base station, cleaning it, everything. Eventually the sock stopped sending information to the base station at all. The app would show that it was connected to the sock, but no vital information would come through. When we finally decided it was time to contact Owlet about this, we were just over the 12 month warranty window and they refused to fix or replace the device.

Overall, while we love the functionality and peace of mind it gives us, it's too expensive of a device to only last a year. If you're planning to have multiple kids, expect that you'll have to buy a new one for each child. I see other reviews mention a similar experience so I know we're not alone.

It works, but only for a year

Very loud! Which is nice! When you’re sleeping! And when you have an active baby it notifies you on what is going on, if it’s emergent, just needs looked at not connecting correctly with baby, WiFi not connected. If there is movement and it can’t read. Just so much. It woke me up from a dead sleep one night not even on her when it was charging due to it “not being able to read the baby” but it obviously wasn’t connected. and it sent it to my phone and the chime! It was nice
