Overall Opinion: Prior to Phoenix acquisition, Iolo had a great product, and an excellent Customer support service. Regrettably the product and support have gone downhill. Anyone using System Mechanic Pro with Firefox will find that setting ActiveCare to clean out Internet files, results in the loss of ALL saved passwords. This problem was reported at the end of December 2018, and is still unresolved (March 2019), meaning that one of the key features has to be disabled. Twice Customer support have closed the ticket that I created to report the problem, without even bothering to respond to me. Suggest you look for alternative.

Overall Opinion: I normally don't post reviews but as a long time System Mechanic subber I had to once I saw Mike's opinion above. Something needs to be said about the sad, sad decline of the product. When Sys Mech came out there was nothing else close to it on the market. I had tried many of the programs out there and while they worked to an extent, none of them did the CAT scan that Sys Mech did. Prior to my first scan I ran my go to 3 or 4 utilities to see what if anything Sys Mech might pick up that they didn't. The first scan took a long time and when done the results were mind numbing....literally hundreds of issues (some trivial of course but some big ones too.) When I clicked on the fix button that also took quite a while to finish. I rebooted my computer (for some things you had to back then). The difference was amazing...from on button to ready to go desk top it took about 15 seconds. Everything was better - internet connection speed, hard disk access, just to name a couple. Follow on scans were much shorter and continued to tweak this or that. It was a wonderful product and I happily paid the sub fee. It was worth every penny. You could tell the guys/gals that developed this were "nerds" and loved what they did and it showed in aces. Then came the Phoenix acquisition. The first thing I noticed was the new "security" products and services spam that dominated the interface. Since I was a Sys Mech Premium subscriber I thought well it's a nice bonus. I clicked on a couple of the new features and it did it's thing but stopped short of delivering the "implied" results. Like so many scam utilities it used the "to fix this" or "to get protected" you can upgrade to blah blah. That's when I knew Sys Mech had changed forever. The scans now take a fraction of the time they used to and everything is always "good" with the exception of junk files that accumulate regardless. Given the thorough scans of the past I have my doubts that anything is really done now other than a graphics splash that says everything is ok in less than thirty seconds. The old deep scans used to take 3-4 minutes. Form my perspective Sys Mech is a shell of what it once was. It now serves primarily as an advertisement vehicle for Phoenix to hawk their security products. It's just sad. Like Mike advised above if you want a comprehensive utility to keep things running like the day you got your PC, you'll need to look elsewhere. I have to say it one last time.....the original Iolo Sys Mech was one of the most valuable and amazing pieces of software I purchased in almost 40 years of computing. They'll be a really tough act to follow.

My Opinion on System Mechanic

Overall Opinion: Computers are exposed each day to bloatware and junk files that can impact overall performance and speed. System Mechanic stands apart from many of the tools which promise to repair errors and speed up a lagging system. It was developed by Iolo Technologies and uses proprietary technology which probes a system to make needed repairs. System Mechanic begins by tackling the basic issues that are typically responsible for a lack of speed in computers. It increases the availability of RAM and hard drive space. Best of all, these processes can be automated. The software conserves resources so that gaming and streaming media applications run smoothly. Startup programs that run on their own can also be managed. This is an effective way to increase overall speed, but where the software really excels is in its ability to modify hidden Windows settings that directly impact download speeds and page load times. More than 30,000 different issues can be fixed by System Mechanic. The updates to the program are ongoing and include fixes for new problems as they are identified. Clutter can be removed with a single click. Users will probably be surprised at how much junk their computer has accumulated. Most similar programs only fix computer errors. This one also tackles matters that can compromise security. Browsing histories can be truly eliminated, and the program will also prevent harmful changes from being made to a system by various programs. At just $49.95 for a whole home license, the software is reasonably priced when one considers that it can replace multiple programs.

Pros: Addresses multiple issues Allows for automating many tasks Frequent updates to handle new threats Elegant and user-friendly interface

Cons: Some older versions of Windows are not supported Will not work with HD monitors
