My Opinion on MapleSim

Overall Opinion: Engineers and product designers can use MapleSim to model and simulate the behavior of CAD-designed equipment. Through defining the characteristics of the modeled equipment and defining equations that represent the movements and actions of the equipment, the engineer can analyze the equipment in an interactive analysis environment. Through modeling the equipment prior to building it, the engineer can reduce the time required to design, develop and test the equipment and, in turn, reduce the development time and cost of the modeled equipment. MapleSim is a fully-developed symbolic modeling engine. This means that the graphically-represented symbolic objects can be applied to objects in the models and combined with other symbolic objects to represent custom behavior.

Pros: MapleSim is widely used in the engineering, life-sciences, aerospace and other industries, and there is a large and active user community. Through using the MapleSim advanced modeling software, you can reduce development risk by finding issues earlier in the development cycle. You can reduce development costs by reducing the number of prototypes you need to build. You can automate knowledge capture by using the MapleSim modeling tool, as there's more to the modeling file than just the model. Descriptions, animations and additional information can be embedded in the model, creating a self-documenting object and process.

Cons: MapleSim is a powerful tool with advanced capabilities, and, as such, requires an extensive knowledge of engineering principles and mathematics to reap the full benefits of the software. The accuracy of a modeled system is limited by the knowledge and abilities of the software user. The cost of the software may be prohibitive.
