Buying Guide

Finding a pellet stove to fit your home can be an arduous process. With so many options and so much terminology thrown around, it can be difficult to know where to start. But buying a pellet stove doesn't need to be overwhelming. You can narrow down your choices by understanding a few simple criteria that you're looking for.
1. Square Footage - How large is the space you want the pellet stove to heat? Are you heating your entire home, or just one floor or room? Is the pellet stove your main source of heat, or is it supplementary? A pellet stove that heats only one room will be much cheaper than a pellet stove designed to heat an entire home. Most pellet stove listings will tell you the maximum square footage they're designed for.

2. Budget - How much are you budgeting for the stove? Keep in mind that the cost of pellets is not included in the initial stove price. But also keep in mind that a pellet stove could potentially replace oil heating. This makes pellet stoves an economical option. You'll need to decide how much you're willing to spend on a stove and look for stoves in that price range.

3. Burn Time - How long does the stove need to burn? Different stoves have different burn times per fueling. Stoves with longer burn times will cost more initially, but they'll make up for their price differences with their energy efficiency. It's important to invest in a stove with a long burn time if you're using your stove as your primary source of heat in an area with difficult winters. However, if you won't be using the pellet stove often, burn time may not be as big a contributing factor.

The Pleasant Hearth Cabinet Style 50000 BTU's Pellet Stove with 120-Pound Hopper can heat up to 2200 square feet. It is EPA certified and has an eighty-five percent efficiency rating. The stove can burn for twenty-four to seventy hours at a time, and it comes with five unique heat settings. Also included are an outside air kit and convection blower. This stove costs about four hundred dollars when bought used.

The Castle 12327 Serenity Wood Pellet Stove with Smart Controller can heat 1500 square feet. The thermal efficiency is greater than 69.8%. This stove is EPA certified and has five feed rates. It costs around eleven hundred dollars.

The stove heats up to 2000 square feet and is EPA certified, with an 86% efficiency rating. Also included is an ash pan and programmable thermostat. This stove comes with a one year parts warranty and costs about four hundred dollars when bought used.

The Pleasant Hearth 1,200 Square Feet Wood Burning Stove is a smaller pellet stove option. It can heat up to 1200 square feet. This stove can burn between six and eight hours per fueling, and fits a six-inch stove pipe. Also included are a draft control lever and variable speed blower. This stove is EPA certified and burns logs up to eighteen inches. It costs about seven hundred and fifty dollars in its small size, and about one thousand in its large size.

The Comfortbilt Pellet Stove heats up to 2000 square feet. Its dimensions are 36" high, and 24" wide by 26" deep. The blower has an eight-six percent burn efficiency. The stove weighs fifty-five pounds. Also included are an ash pan, programmable thermostat, and one year parts warranty. This stove costs about seven hundred dollars when bought used.

The Pelpro Pellet Stove is an EPA certified pellet stove which can heat up to 2200 square feet. It has an 85% efficiency rating. The US Stove GW1949 Wiseway Non-Electric Pellet Stove is an EPA certified pellet stove. This stove can heat up to 2000 square feet, and it uses the standard three-inch pellet venting. It utilizes a natural gravity feed system to make maintenance easier, and each refill lasts for up to thirty-six hours. This stove costs about nineteen hundred dollars.

The 20472 BTU Free-standing Wood Pellet Stove is an economic option for pellet stoves, only costing about seven hundred dollars. It has a smaller square footage capacity, though, heating between 430 and 645 square feet. The stove can burn for up to thirteen hours. Unfortunately, the installation materials are not included. It is coated with heat-resistant paint.

If you're looking for a long burning stove, the Pelpro Pellet Stove is your best option. If you need to heat a smaller area and want an economic option, the 20472 BTU Free-standing Wood Pellet Stove is the best option. For people looking for a low maintenance stove, the US Stove GW1949 Wiseway Non-Electric Pellet Stove is a good choice. Consider your reasons for buying a pellet stove and budget accordingly. You want to have all the information available to make a decision you won't regret.
