Overall Opinion: There is a lot to look forward to in this game. Those who enjoyed classic farming games like Harvest Moon and Rune Factory will be more than happy to learn that the vast majority of the mechanics that players have come to know and love are kept the same in Stardew Valley. The story begins with the player's character learning that they've inherited a farm. Moving away from the world they've known, they decide to take care of the farm and embrace an enjoyable and quiet life in the countryside. From there, many of the soothing, classical elements of the genre are available at the player's pace. As individuals improve the state of their farm, they may also interact with the nearby town to improve other facets of the locals lives.

Pros: Players can look forward to freedom with their day, choosing what they want to do without feeling obligated towards any specific task throughout the story. The charming graphics and sound design of the game guarantee a soothing and entertaining experience, perfect as a game to play before going to sleep. Progression and accomplishment is easy to measure as the player continued playing through the game, as there are many unlockables and shortcuts to enjoy. The romance system is very intuitive and endearing, and players can choose between a number of unique town members as their spouse, which affects their end-game experience.

Cons: Some players have said that the game could be improved even further if the NPCs had a greater variety of lines to add more depth to the story and overall immersive experience. Fishing has been described as tedious when compared to some of the other activities that players could engage in throughout their progress in the game. Some players have said that the yearly events and festivals do not have a lot of replay value, especially after the player has already completed them the first time through.
