Overall Opinion: Wikipedia literally changed the way that people consume information. The user-generated Web encyclopedia lets individuals contribute to articles on popular people, places, and things. Millions of people use Wikipedia each day for fast access to information. They can now access the entire repository of Wikipedia entries with a free mobile app for Android and iOS phones and tablets. The mobile app offers some interesting features which set it apart from the browser-based version of Wikipedia. For starters, users can choose from a variety of themes. The app can be customized with different colors at the whim of the user. The pages are also very easy to navigate and read. The Wikipedia app uses a feed like that found on social media channels to deliver trending current events, reading suggestions, and more. There is even a This Day In History feature which will inspire many conversations around the water cooler. Multiple languages are also supported, and it is easy to change from one language to another with just a tap. Hands-free use is also possible with the app thanks to its integration of voice search. Just say the item you want to look up and a list of related articles will appear on the screen. One of the features that users seem to like the most is convenient link previews that let you preview a link without closing the page you are currently reading. Users can also create reading lists and even access these lists when not online. Wikipedia has also partnered with some mobile service providers to offer Wikipedia Zero. This service eliminates data charges that one might incur while using the app. The primary downfall of Wikipedia has always been it's user-created platform. This inevitably creates some entries which are not reliable. Sadly, the app doesn't fix this. Some users have reported that they are not able to make edits with the mobile version, but the app is still in beta at this time. Editing features could be added in a future update.
Pros: Choose from a selection of skins and themes Customize the app's main feed to your own preferences No data charges from some mobile carriers
Cons: Slow to load at times Random entries are shown at start up Some users report images will not open
