Description
Dishonored is a video game set in the fictional steampunk city of Dunwall, home of Corvo Attano. Corvo is a bodyguard who was framed for murder and forced into becoming an assassin. He fights with the... resistance group, the Loyalists, to take back the city. The game focuses heavily on stealth and fighting. It features both steampunk machinery and supernatural magic. The city of Dunwall itself is one of the main attractions of the game. The city thrived in the past due to its prosperous whaling industry, but fell victim to a plague that is ravaging its streets during the time of the game. Much of the city is very elaborate and beautiful, while some areas take much darker tones. Read moreless

Overall Opinion: Dishonored is a very fun game to play, and a very versatile game that requires multiple playthroughs to get a full experience of the game. The game relies a lot on the stealth/violence dynamic. By that I mean that you often find yourself choosing between multiple paths to forge the game in front of you. You can charge through obstacles headfirst and leave dead bodies in your path, or you can take the stealthier approach and avoid conflict. The decisions you make do impact the game. The game is especially fun because of the way that it mixes conventional weaponry with otherworldly magic. The setting is exciting and intriguing, although occasionally bland. The gameplay itself is not too difficult to get through, but will challenge players in ways that they may not expect from other more traditional games. The story is compelling and does drive you to complete it. You feel for Corvo as you play the game and feel a thirst for revenge against the empire that betrayed him.

Pros: Dishonored features an elaborate setting and strong characters. The city of Dunwall lures you in and makes you want to stay forever, in spite of the dreaded plague. The mix of conventional weapons and magical abilities makes for exciting gameplay with many options to master. You have the option to complete the game without killing anyone, making multiple play-throughs a must if you want to really experience the game.
