The Flask.

The flask is truly a thing of beauty. A simple invention made to ferry alcohol alongside you wherever you may go in your travels, swishing and swirling with either the finest spirits, or the foulest swill, your flask is your best friend and companion on any venture that may require a good drink or two. So you should probably get one you're fond of.

With flasks becoming a stylish way to differentiate yourself from other drinkers by displaying some extra flair, personality, and a bit of refinement, it's important to find the flask that you feel is right for you. Which, given the absolutely incredible amount of drinking flasks of all shapes and sizes and materials on the market, is probably much easier said than it is done.

The Needs.

The first consideration for a flask is the materials. The two most popular, and iconic, flask materials (and the materials you will see most often) are Stainless Steel and Pewter, however you may see other metals for aesthetic purposes, glass, or plastic for certain novelty-flasks.

For more every day use, consider stainless steel. It is cheaper and commonly available in all manners of shape and sizes. Easy to take care of and maintain, and incredibly durable, the stainless steel flask is hardly going to fail you, whether it's a simple night on the town or you and your flask get into something wild and end up a bit banged about.

For a classier, classic finish, the pewter flask is probably a bit closer to ideal. While originally a substitute for the silver flask that the common-man could afford, pewter flasks have now climbed a bit in price - not so much that it creates too much exclusivity around them, but enough to add a refined appreciation for the metal and the way it is used. This also puts it in the ideal gift price-range for most occasions. Often hand-crafted, there is a certain almost...intimacy, to the pewter flask, that makes up for the fact that they are much less durable than stainless steel in regards to being banged about, and should most certainly be handled with care. Also make sure to NEVER drink from antique pewter flasks, as while modern pewter is lead-free, the metal USED to be chock full of lead. Like. Crazy amounts of lead. Bananas amounts.

The rest, more often than not, comes down to preference and situation. Are you going somewhere that requires discretion? Don't pull out a giant flask with LED lights on the side that say 'THIRST QUENCHER', though that would be hilarious. Are you going out camping or somewhere else that your gear will be roughed about? Get something with a more secure cap mechanism, preferably that secures itself to the mouth of the flask.
