Buying Guide

What do you need to know when buying a hand paddle? Well you need to buy a paddle according to the type of activity you are going to be doing. There are paddles for professional use and there are paddles for recreational use. There are also paddles for the type of swimming you are going to be doing. For instance there are paddles for serious athletes and there are also paddles for people who just want to do laps around the pool. Swim paddles come in various shapes and sizes. Form curved to flat. If you get a bigger paddle, It will make it more difficult to move through the water. You will be a lot slower. If you get paddles with holes in them, you will be able to move through the water easier and faster. The holes let water go through them. You should always start with a paddle that is just a little bigger than your hand, that way you will get used to the paddle, then if you want more resistance, move up to a bigger paddle.
There are quit a few different types of paddles to choose from. There are ergonomic hand paddles made for comfort. They fit the shape of your hand and feel a little bit more natural. The ergonomic paddles come with wholes or without. Choose depending on how much resistance you want. Flat swim paddles are for people who are serious trainers and want resistance. Flat hand paddles come in different sizes and shapes. There are triangle paddles, square paddles, and hand shaped flat paddles. They also come with or without holes. There are traditional paddles made with hard plastic. They are basic and you simply use bigger and bigger ones to build up resistance. There are swim gloves that fit your hand like a glove and they spread your fingers out just like a glove. Swim gloves are great for long periods of time in water. They are comfortable. There are hand paddles for just about any aquatic activity you want to do, and also and size, shape, and color.
To make sure you get the right size use a fabric measuring tape and measure around the palm of your hand. Hand paddles are a great TOOL to improve stamina, strength, and endurance while swimming. They also help improve stroke technique. Hand paddles provide a great workout for your arms, shoulders and back. If you use hand paddles enough, you will notice how strong of a swimmer you are when you don't have them on. There are many benefits of hand paddles. If you are in a rush and need a quick workout, grab some hand paddles, throw them on and go for it. You will get tired very very quickly and get a full work out in less time.
Here are so useful tips when using hand paddles. Build up to bigger paddles slowly so that you don't injure yourself. Also start by going short distances and build up. Just like with any exercise, your not going to start with the heaviest weights first. When you have them on keep your palm open. It allows the water to flow over your palm and it feels more natural. The first time, as with anything, is going to be hard. Don't give up. This is why you got them to make you stronger. Keep practicing and it will get easier and easier. If you are already an experienced swimmer and need more resistance try the hand paddles with a swim buoy. This will give you extra resistance. And finally, if it hurts don't do it anymore. Its not worth an injury. Build up. When one gets too comfortable get a bigger size paddle. When that one gets too comfortable, upgrade. Eventually, you will look back and think wow. I used to get tired just swimming without the paddles.
In closing, choose the swim paddle best for you. If your a beginner, try something that is going to have less resistance. Even if you do not feel much resistance, the swim paddle is teaching you how to control your stroke and helping you to learn where your hand positions are. Gradually move up when you are ready.Slowly, but surely. If you are an intermediate swimmer chose a paddle that's going to challenge you and make you push yourself. You want to feel it good. Just also make sure you do not over do it. You may want a medium sized paddle with no holes. It will give you a work out. If your a professional swimmer, go big or go home. Biggest hand paddles you can find. No holes so you get all the resistance you can. You can even use a swim buoy in case your swim paddles aren't enough. I think the key to buying hand paddles is all in comfort level. I think I gave you good information to use when you go out and buy hand paddles. Hand paddles are a form of exercise equipment. Use them wisely and build up. Beginners, one more thing, I think I have said it before, but just in case make sure you start out with Hand paddles slightly bigger than your hand. I hope this information has been helpful, now go out there grab some swim paddles and swim.
