Overall Opinion: Very good free package. The only problem is if it doesn't quite install properly, you are advised to reinstall your OS and set up the mail server again, which can be a huge amount of work.

My Opinion on iRedMail

Ease of Use
Customer Service
Value For Money

Overall Opinion: It's hard to argue that Google and other cloud based companies have changed the way we do business in a pretty fundamental way, but a simple cloud based email solution isn't a terribly feasible solution for most businesses, and it becomes even less appealing the larger your business becomes. A mail server can provide your company with an added air of respectability, give you more control over your email services, and provide you with the assurance that your email accounts will be able to handle the sheer bulk of mail coming into your inbox. While you can hire out a third party service to handle your email server, there are some feasible options to run the server yourself, and iRedMail is one of the best of these services available. It also offers a free plan, and the pricing model for premium plans are tiered so that you can come up with a solution that matches your needs. What's great about iRedMail is the sense of clarity. This isn't a software as a service model. When you purchase a license for iRedMail, you're provided with the entirety of the open source code. Rather than try to sell you a service, the company provides you with packaged components and best practices so that you can put together your own email server. You can run it out of the box or personalize it to match the needs of yourself or your business. iRedMail has been on the market for over a decade, and they work with a wide range of Linux deployments. Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise, Debian, CentOS, OpenBSD, and FreeBSD all support iRedMail. The basic version of iRedMail offers a surprising amount of versatility for a free platform. Both local and webmail email services are provided, and iRedMail comes with its own internal calendars and contacts lists which can be synced across multiple devices. And since all your personal information is saved locally, you can be secure in the knowledge that your data is kept private. Giving users full control of their servers is a key component of the iRedMail philosophy, and it really starts to shine wit the Pro version. You can create an administrative tree as complex as you need and have full control of rights and privileges afforded to each. Whether you're looking to split up your server's administration between different departments or let a single administrator control everything, you have the option, and you can change up the infrastructure of your administrative network on the fly. Service control can be handled per user with simple toggle functions, and iRedMail also offers nuanced and powerful control over throttling. Each user also has a flexible amount of control over their accounts. From managing whitelisting and blacklisting options to setting parameters to mail forwarding to setting spam management policies, users will get all the functionality they could want from a business email platform without having to jump through hoops with admin. With an iRedMail license, you're given access to an unlimited number of accounts.

Pros: Completely open source Flat annual licensing fee gives you access to all the code and functionality A huge amount of customization options

Cons: Doesn't offer the same robust customer service you could expect from an SaaS platform Some features locked out of the free plan
