Buying Guide

The Monitor.

For most, the computer makes sense as a two piece machine: The PC itself, and the monitor. The display especially is important as it is the part of your hardware you will most likely be the most directly associated with; you need it to see every and anything that you do, and not having one kind of makes owning a computer like owning a car without wheels - Sure, you own one, but it doesn't actually go anywhere.

But, like most things technological, there is an insane amount of variation and specifics to trying to buy yourself a PC monitor, and the amount of choice and difference can be incredibly daunting. So, with this guide, you'll hopefully be able to identify the right one for you. So let's get started with...

The Needs.

A monitor should be catered to its owner, and as a result, to its use. What you plan to use your monitor for will be a contributing factor to what the monitor you purchase should be like. For those who just need something small and easy to browse the web, especially on a compact desk, size really isn't that important, and in fact, smaller may be better. However, conversely, those who plan to do an extensive amount of photo/video editing, media consumption, writing, or gaming, may want to buy a larger monitor (Or two!) for their setup.

This also comes with the added concerns of resolution. Typically, the bigger the monitor, the higher you'll want your resolution, to account for pixel density and create a sharper image.

You'll also want to see what kinds of aspect ratios you can find for your monitor - typically you'll end up with a widescreen, super-widescreen, or a curved display. Each is different and catered to a different experience, with the former great for general use, the second for anything requiring multi-tasking or for gaming with a higher field-of-view (allowing for higher peripheral sight), and the latter for an immersive experience that makes you feel like you're encapsulated in the movie, show, video, or game you are enjoying.

You may also want to look into monitors that have varying presets for things like 'Game' and 'Movie' modes that tweak the display levels to better provide an enjoyable experience.

So, with that all said, let's look at...

The Options.

The following monitors are some top-tier picks, each with their own strengths and areas of specific specialization. They may not meet your needs, but will, at the least, give you an idea of what you're looking at, what you're looking for, and what you aren't looking for.
