Overall Opinion: Sharing code on the internet is a helpful way for programmers to collaborate, especially over long distances. While there are multiple ways to go about this, people have shown that fast and simple is more important than a clunky, feature filled mess. That's what led to the success of pastebin.com, a site that functions how it sounds. People would paste a big chunk of text or code to the site, which then generates a link to a unique page that contains that pasted information. That short link could then be shared with others for nearly instantaneous results. PASTE is the spiritual successor to pastebin, as it's based off of the original pastebin's source code. However, numerous improvements have been made, including the ability to have user and administrator accounts with control over access, integration with social media and much more. Requirements for installing the software include Apache 2.X or Nginx, MySQL version 5 or greater and PHP 5.3.7 (or later) with php-mcrypt and GD enabled.
Pros: Very fast, lightweight and easy to use solution for pasting and sharing text with others Completely free and open source
Cons: Lack of updates means the software might be abandoned, though anyone can fork it on SourceForge
