Overall Opinion: Downloaded puppy 8.0 and Rufus 3.6 portable. Created live CD in Windows 10 and booted live on aGateway MX6124 512 ram trapped in XP and no other route up. CD ran smoothly and connected to the Internet after recognizing my wifi network name. No hitches or stalls. Installed the OS from the menu and erased XP. All the MP3 and wam's played nicely and some videos also played well. It's up to you to decide. This is not Windows. Take time to learn terminal and some simple commands. Rewarding.

Overall Opinion: guys, i am a Linux enthusiast and admirer. One great quest that I have been pursuing is to have Autodesk:s AutoCAD (versions 2005 - 2020) ,a great Windows program run successfully in a Linux distro. I am hoping that that could be done in Puppy OS. The legacy of Windows is expected to stay for a long time, but I would not return to using Windows if AutoCAD could be installed and run in a Linux distro. I am presently running (dual boot) both Windows 10 and Endless OS, but I just couldn't install and run AutroCAD in Endless OS.I would like to try that with Puppy OS if that is possible. Please help. Thanks so much.

My Opinion on Puppy Linux

Overall Opinion: Linux isn't for everyone. The operating system is notable for its difficult learning curve, particularly in a world where MacOS and Windows are racing to make their models as intuitive as possible. But Linux users would tell you that's a feature rather than a bug. Because that higher level of complexity also means that users have nearly unlimited control over how their operating system runs. Command line controls allow users to create uniquely tailored operating systems that are built to their needs. But a model with completely unlimited possibilities can be a limitation in and of itself, and that's part of the reason there are so many different distributions of Linux on the market. Puppy is one of the oldest legacies, and while it may not be the prettiest version of Linux around, it's well-regarded for packing a lot of speed into a very small package. Unlike its more popular operating system counterparts, but similar to fellow Linux distro Ubuntu, Puppy Linux is designed to be as lightweight as possible. The entire operating system can be stored directly onto a disk or flash drive, so you can boot it as an alternative to your traditional operating system, install it even on aging machines, or get access to your desktop wherever you want to go with the simple plug and play compatibility. Unlike many Linux distros, a lot of painstaking effort has been taken into making sure that Puppy Linux is designed to accommodate the needs of any rudimentary users. They call themselves "Grandpa friendly", and there's definitely some truth in that. Multiple flavors of Puppy Linux allow you to select a version of the operating system that's suited to your specific needs, and it even automatically adjusts to match the age and model of your computer. Cross-compatibility is one of the biggest strengths here, as you can trust it to work even on failing and antiquated machines. Puppy Linux comes out of the box with a full suite of free software that covers all the standards you'd expect from a modern personal computing platform. What's particularly interesting about Puppy Linux is that it's not a single operating system platform and more a framework on which other developers have built out their own ecosystems. The small size and ease of use has led to thousands of "puplets" being created. You can think of these as templates that take the Puppy Linux model and adapt it to the needs of general users. While the possibility is there for you to quite easily adapt the main Puppy Linux model to suit you, there's a great chance that you can find a puplet that accommodates your specific needs with no understanding of shell required. Whether you're simply looking for a free operating system or looking to dip your toes in the customization Linux has to offer, Puppy is one of the best places to start.

Pros: One of the most lightweight operating systems around Completely free to use Highly customizable, like most versions of Linux

Cons: Isn't the prettiest operating system around Not as fully featured as other operating systems
