The problem is that it is often difficult to manually go in and update every piece of software that is on your system. Not only is this a time consuming process, but it is largely impractical in theory. Not all updates, for example, apply equally across all devices. You might not want a particular update to be installed, but you may desire subsequent ones. It can all get rather confusing, particularly if you have quite a few programs that receive regular updates. To make sure that you are always running the latest and most feature rich of virtually any given piece of software, UpdateStar has been created.

Pros: A simple way to have your software checked, behind the scenes, for needed updates and revisions Be notified if one of your versions is out of date Easy to install and use

Cons: The free version does not distinguish between a new program version and an actual new series of a program To get the useful features that one would expect, a paid upgrade to the premium version of the program is necessary Upgrades are often made when you would actually wait for a different version
