KMyMoney

Desktop Software Tools
Description
KMyMoney is a free open source accounting software application designed for the Linux KDE desktop, with a design and functionality similar to Quicken for Microsoft Windows. To ensure accuracy and an o...rganized view of your financials, the software uses double entry accounting techniques. The software is easy to use, with an intuitive interface and the ability to import data from other files. Despite its ease of use, the software includes a ton of features that rival other personal finance managers available for purchase, such as a budgeting tool and the option to connect directly to your bank accounts. Review: If you are currently using the KDE system on your Linux desktop, KMyMoney is the best personal finance software because its packed with features and free. The software's user interface makes it easy to set up and start managing your money, without requiring a ton of technical background knowledge. If you are a previous user of Microsoft Windows' Quicken or MSMoney software, you can move your financial records from these programs to KMyMoney without any trouble. You will also find the tools and controls are very similar to Quicken, making it even easier to get the hang of how to use the software. KMyMoney works best for personal or small business financial management, since it does not have the management power to track the finances of a large business. For a quick view of your financial outlook, the software allows you to see snapshots of where each of your accounts stands. In these snapshot views, you can see all of the payees into the account along with the all of the transactions of each payee. Although KMyMoney does provide some online banking tools, these features are weaker when compared to other financial management software. Overall, KMyMoney is a strong application for budgeting and managing your finances if you are using the Linux KDE desktop system. Read moreless

Overall, KMyMoney is a strong application for budgeting and managing your finances if you are using the Linux KDE desktop system.

Pros: Easy to get started with prompts to enter only necessary information in the beginning User interface is easy to use and similar to Microsoft's Quicken application, making it even easier for prior users of this program Integrates well with the features of the Linux KDE system Gives you the option to import your financial information from another program or file Allows you to tie your investment accounts and brokerage accounts together Online banking tools give you the opportunity to directly link the application to your account data Scheduling feature allows you to input recurring transactions

Cons: Does not include a feature for classification, which makes it difficult to view specific items at one time No support for deleting or reassigning transactions from an assigned category Online banking features are lacking compared to other personal finance managers
