Overall Opinion: the worst software ever written. BEWARE EVERY UPDATE! it will render your system unusable MAMP does not help with catalina. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pros: formerly ease of use. but this isn't given anymore
Cons: cant cope with the file-access-rights from catalina
Overall Opinion: It can be downloaded smoothly from the MAMP website. MAMP Software runs on both Macintosh as well as Windows platform. For installation, a system should at least attain specific specification requirements of, in windows; Windows 7/8/8.1 with a minimum 1gb Ram and OSX; OSX 10.6.6 or later as well as a 64bit CPU from Intel X84. On installation, the installation files contain an update called MAMP Pro and MAMP to which one has to choose what to install. It’s important to note that for MAMP Software to work, one has to have a folder named “application “inside the OSX Directory as you can’t move it out. MAMP Software access can be through a host that is local in the web browser. Since it’s local and not virtualized, local files are saved in the host Computer thus it’s easier to work with it as no internet connection is needed to access files, unlike the other online servers, for example, could9. It is, however, possible to have more than one server in one PC without tampering neither Computer files nor operations. Thus there is no noticeable effect on the Host computer’s performance. After installation one has to choose the environments that are best suited for his/her website, for example, Apache as the server.
Pros: Easy prompted installation. It’s open source software. Fast installation. It cannot tamper with the already installed apache server previously installed. It’s light so the Computer won’t run out of memory during execution. Unlike online servers, it's faster to work with offline servers Prompted installations with interactive UI, Thus no expert are needed in the setup as no significant configuration is required.
Cons: Requires you to install all the server components on the local machine. That means it’s equally hard to monitor, the developments of the production environment. Unlike Vagrant which is virtualized, making it easier to track the production. It’s a host server that is local unless uploaded to cloud hosts like Cloud9 (online editor), you cannot make any changes just in case you want to edit an up-and-running online system. Some Alternates to MAMP Software AMPPS – it’s usually a collection of WAMP, MAMP, and LAMP. That makes it possible to concentrate on using applications than maintaining the applications. Droplr – faster to MAMP and loads more quickly Connect Wise Control – it’s a mobile app that one can use to connect with other systems with the help of internet connection XAMPP – free open source cross-platform web server even though it's the oldest, it is used for web applications development.
