Overall Opinion: While those outside the industry may believe that translation is just about taking a series of words and converting them over, any translator worth their salt will tell you there's a lot more to the occupation than that. Complex grammatical frameworks and idioms can make untangling a turn of phrase and making it palatable ears a real challenge. Luckily, translators don't have to do it alone. memoQ provides tools for individuals and teams working in the translation field. memoQ is especially useful when working on bulk information. Translating commonly repeated phrases can be a real chore, but memoQ automatically stores translations you've made in the past and utilizes it when it sees that information presented again. That means translators can spend less time in the laborious process of translating and more time proofing their materials for errors and discrepancies. It can also be a valuable tool when working with terms of service and contracts, since many of these documents use similar language. You can even edit the database yourself, picking specific words and phrases and automatically setting translations for the software to use. The translation memory has limited learning functions, tracking how frequently translations are used, in what context, and how far in the past, and it will adapt depending on the patterns of the user. It doesn't just look at individual words. It notices the patterns in language and adapts accordingly. The Muse is memoQ's autocomplete function. The Muse draws from your language databases to make educated predictions on what you're trying to type. This reduces the risk of spelling and grammatical errors and minimizes the amount of time you need to spend typing. If you stumble across words that you aren't sure about, memoQ can help you with that. memoQ comes equipped with a wide selection of reference sources and dictionaries, so you can enter any phrase or words you don't understand and simply plug it into the search bar to receive added direction in your translation. If you translate professional, memoQ probably isn't the only tool in your kit. Rather than locking other pieces of software out of the ecosystem, memoQ emphasizes coordination. Popular translation tools like STAR Transit, Word Fast, and SDL Trados Studio are all compatible with memoQ, and importing from or exporting to those programs is a smooth and painless process. The memoQ framework is also compatible with Unicode, XLIFF, TMX, and TBX, so you won't run into any trouble with the software not recognizing the nature of the words presented. The variety of people and organizations that rely on translators are varied, a fact that memoQ is accommodating to. They offer a number of different packages scaled to the needs of their consumers. Individuals will usually be well equipped with Translator Pro or Free, but larger enterprises might want to look at investing in the memoQ Cloud Server or memoQ Project Manager.

Pros: Integration with the cloud server provides you with even more power to your translations Translation memory greatly speeds up the process of translating large documents

Cons: As with most translation software, esoteric words, complex phrases, and idioms often don't translate well The software can take some time to get used to
